Timothy McCarthy Obituary

Timothy Francis McCarthy

Tulare - Timothy Francis McCarthy was reunited with his parents and his many dogs on January 30th, 2021. Throughout his life, Tim loved dearly and was loved by many people. Tim was a husband, a son, an older brother, an uncle, a step-dad, and a grandfather. Tim was a friend to anyone who crossed his path long enough to share a laugh with him. Tim was born to Dorothy and Donald McCarthy on August 15th, 1957, in Tulare. As the oldest of four children, Tim spent most of his early life surrounded by his younger siblings Kelly, Michael, and Daniel alongside their many cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends. During his teenage years, Tim loved to play basketball and work on his family's farm. His claim to fame took place his senior year when he helped his basketball team win the Valley Championship. Tim briefly attended Cuesta College after high school but quickly decided he could learn how to work the land with his father, and anything he didn't already know could only be taught through experience. He did not care as much for the business side of running a farm. His first love was the land, and he took every chance he could to return to it. Alongside being a passionate farmer, Tim was also an avid hunter and fisherman. He had a love for life and new experiences. Despite his adventurous nature, he was happiest at home with his wife, Wanda, and their family. Wanda and Tim shared twenty-seven years of life together. In that time, he inherited two fully grown children, two young grandchildren, and was present for his third grandchild's birth. Though they were legally his stepchildren and grandchildren, Tim made the role of father and grandfather his own. He taught his family that the meaning of family had little to do with blood relation and more to do with who you could count on. He was always there when they needed him. Tim was as generous and humble as they come. He was blessed in life and did not hesitate to share his good fortune with others. His only request was that you did not make a fuss about it and that you kept it to yourself. He had a tough-guy image to uphold.

As his family grieves the loss of their gentle giant, they would also like to thank the many people who loved him and laughed with him throughout the years. Although they wish they had more time with him, they know that he packed a lot of life into his sixty-three beautiful years. He left behind his wife Wanda McCarthy; stepchildren Stacy Richmond (Pete) and Ryan Williamson; grandchildren Trevor Williamson (Samantha Dutro), Savannah Escalera (Michael Requejo), and Summer Escalera; brothers Daniel (Mary) and Michael (Tami) McCarthy; sister Kelly McCarthy-Balogh (Joe); nephew Donovan McCarthy; nieces Danny Balogh, Khloe McCarthy, Sydney Balogh, and Madison McCarthy; and great-nephew Ben McCarthy. Many cousins, in-laws, and outlaws, and friends he enjoyed so much through the years. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, February 23, 2021, at one o'clock at St. Aloysius Church in Tulare, California. WEARING A MASK IS MANDATORY. NO MASK, NO ADMISSION.

My condolences to Tim's family. Tim and I were K-12 Classmates, and we also were teammates on that great TUHS basketball team. I always enjoyed going over to Tim's house and meeting up with Tom Beck and Fred Lampe for some shenanigans. I also remember a class trip to Ryan Prep Seminary our St. Aloysius class took, probably when we were 8th Graders when Tim pondered whether or not he could ever be a Priest.
I'm not sure I ever saw Tim after we graduated High School, but I would think about him and my Tulare friends often. He has left us far too soon, as four or so others from our St. A days, have, and he will be missed. May he rest in peace.
