Kevin Grady Obituary

Kevin Grady

Strafford, VT — It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of long-time Strafford, VT resident Kevin Grady, 69, who died peacefully at home on March 16th, 2022 following an arduous battle with cancer which he faced with his usual dignity and calm. Known for his generous spirit, keen intellect and warm smile (with those endearing dimples), he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Kevin was born and raised in Pittsfield Mass. May 4, 1952. After high school, he attended Northeastern University where he earned a degree in Industrial Engineering. Upon graduation, Kevin worked in the Netherlands for over two years for an American-owned manufacturing company. While there, Kevin proudly mastered the Dutch language, and he adopted the Dutch custom of getting around primarily by bicycle. He also toured around parts of Europe.

Returning to Boston in 1977, Kevin soon found himself involved in volunteer work to help alleviate hunger. This work led him to Southeast Asia, where he volunteered with the Institute of Cultural Affairs in the Philippines, Hong Kong, India and Indonesia.

Upon his return to the US, Kevin became a partner in a construction company in the Berkshires. He also began a study of Alternative Healing, earning a diploma in Massage Therapy. Combining his carpentry skills and knowledge of massage, he took over ownership of Mountain Laurel Massage Tables, a company that manufactured and sold massage tables and yoga supplies.

In 2001, Kevin started his career at Dartmouth College as an IT analyst, retiring in 2020 while at the Office of Sponsored Projects.

Kevin remained very active while pursuing his many hobbies such as contra dancing, bicycling, skiing, snowshoeing, hiking and kayaking. He was passionate about climate change and was an active member in Strafford's Energy Committee.

Kevin was predeceased by his first wife, Bonnie Ross. He is survived by his wife, Susan, her children, Brendan Rogers of Winooski, VT and Danna Rogers of Los Angeles, two sisters, Maureen Porter of Dalton, Mass, and Kim Larko of Cambridge, and brother Shaun Grady of Lexington Mass. He also cherished the close bonds he formed with members of a men's group for over 28 years.

In lieu of flowers, Kevin has asked donations to be made to Doctors Without Borders, UNICEF, World Central Kitchen, or Save the Children.
