Phillip Mautz

Phillip R. Mautz, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather, passed away Aug. 9, 2006, at the age of 84. Phillip was born Aug. 7, 1922, in Pomona. He attended Pomona schools and resided in Barstow for the last 44 years. Phillip drove trucks for Ranchers Oil in San Dimas for many years. He retired from Yellow Freight in Barstow 21 years ago. Phillip loved to hunt and fishing was his passion. When his eyesight was better he was into tying his own flies. Phillip was always into one hobby or another. Years ago it was trap shooting, archery and golf. After he retired, Phillip took up photography and welding, taking classes at Barstow Community College. He also belonged to the Barstow Horseshoe Club. Phillip and his wife, Vivian, loved to have barbecues for their friends and family. He took great pride in his barbecued chicken and ribs. Phillip was preceded in passing by his wife of 56 years, Vivian, only two months ago, daughter Phyllis, mother, father and sister. He is survived by his daughter Barbara Cahoon, her husband, Richard, and their children, Shelley Davis, Marcus Mosqueda, Donna O'Donovan and Nona Simmons; son Wayne Caffey and his children Tyler and Lily; son Ronald Caffey, his wife, Norma, and their children Crystal Melendrez, Steven Caffey and Joshua Coleman; and the surviving children of daughter Phyllis Mautz, Gregory Cruse, Carol Cruse and Carrie Cruse. Phillip also leaves 16 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Oakdale Memorial Park and Mortuary, 1401 S. Grande Ave. in Glendora. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Oakdale Memorial Park and Mortuary.
