Gerald Wayne Burkett

Gerald Wayne "Hoss" Burkett, 71, of Waco, formerly of Weaver, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012, at his residence in Waco. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at the Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Vernon, Texas, with the Rev. Jimmy Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at the Weaver Cemetery with Patrick Brown, Allan Chester, Dale Goldsmith, Dustin Massey, Rick Garmon, Edward Garcia, Mike Stafford, and Valiente Maldonado serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Troy Crone, Dwain Webb, Wayne McCollum and Elario Maldonado. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17, at the funeral home.

Mr. Burkett was born on June 2, 1941, the son of Ben Virgil and Floy Marie Davis Burkett. He married Carol Elaine Williams on Oct. 20, 1971, in Corpus Christi and she survives.

Mr. Burkett was a truck driver and trucking business for over 40 years. He served in the U.S. Navy.

He is survived by his spouse, Carol Burkett of Waco; son, Ben Virgil Burkett and daughter-in-law, Denise of Waco; grandson, Dustin Massey; and brother, Paul Burkett of Weaver.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Virginia Marie Burkett.
