Steve McDaniel, 61, passed away suddenly November 22, 2021, at his home in Hewitt, TX. Steve was the husband of Don McDaniel. They shared over 13 years together and adopted their son James in 2019.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m., Saturday, November 27, at Lake Shore Funeral Home 5201 Steinbeck Bend Dr, Waco.
Steve was born in Waco, TX, he was the son of Edward and Oneta Girnus. Steve graduated from University High School in 1979 and went on to have a successful career in the food and medical industry.
Steve loved the holidays, especially Christmas, where he enjoyed decorating and bringing any place he went to life with the joy of the holidays. We know Steve is smiling down on us as we all came together during this special time of year. Steve will be remembered for his kind and caring heart, where he never met a stranger and was never too busy to help a friend in need.
Steve was an amazing father figure, not just to James, but to all the children he helped raise and care for throughout his life. From working at the Methodist Home to taking on a fatherly roll whenever it was needed without question or complaint.
Steve is survived by his husband, Don; their son, James; and several nieces and nephews who he helped raise as his own. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Oneta; and brothers, Gary, Edward, and Jerry.

Steve,
It has been two years and not a day goes by I don't miss you. I really dislike this time of year. A piece of me died with you. I want you to know James and I are doing ok. We moved off to start a new life and wish you were here with us. I love you always.

Dear Don,
Steve was sick a great friend to me over the past couple of years! I was his Administrator at WVM for a year, we remained close friends after we left. He texted every couple of weeks just to check on me! He prayed for me when I lost my mother a few months ago. He was just the kindest, most loving, caring person I've known in a long time. It was an honor to call him my friend and to know him!
Please know that I am here for you whatever you may need, great or small! I sent you a text with my number. Please please reach out if I can do anything at all!

Steve worked with my mom at King's Grill when I was a kid. They shared Christmas cards for years. I ran into Steve a couple of months ago and it was nice to see him. He was like a distant family member.
