James Sunderland Obituary
James served in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He retired from the University of Northwestern Ohio where he taught mechanics for nine years, was the assistant director for 11 years and had a dormitory named in his honor. He hardly ever missed a Lima Senior or Ohio State football or basketball game for many, many years. He was a member of Forest Park United Methodist Church. He was also a HAM radio operator and a former member of the Elks.
He is survived by his children, son, Jeffrey (Denise) Sunderland, of Circleville; daughter, Jodi Harter, of Alabaster, Ala.; grandchildren, Landen Sunderland, Zachary (Gretchen) Harter and Lindsay (Brian) Keen; brother, Robert (MaryLou) Sunderland, and sister, Judy Kingsborough.
He is preceded in death by his father, Emerson Sunderland, mother, Marcella (Zerkel) Sunderland, and brother, Donald Sunderland.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015, at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home in Lima.
A funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 9, 2015, at Forest Park United Methodist Church in Lima.
Rev. Tim Benjamin and Rev. Brian Keen will officiate.
Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Lima.
Memorial contributions may be made to Forest Park United Methodist Church, 316 S. Collins St., Lima, Ohio 45804.

Nearly 39 years ago I started a new career as an instructor at Northwestern Business College Technical Center, now UNOH. Jim became one of my mentors, helping me make the transition from technician to instructor. I'm thankful to call Jim a friend and mentor. Billy (Sarge) Sergent

Nearly 50 years ago Mr. Sunderland was my Cub Master when I was in Scouts. I have many great memories of that time. Many years later. I would find out how much time and energy the job requires, when it was my turn to be a Cub Master.He was a great example. Tahe Care, Jim Smith Wapakoneta, Ohio

Jeff, please accept my sympathy. Your dad was such an awesome guy! He loved the Buckeyes, Lima Spartans and Cincinnati Reds - A true fan. You know we had many fun times together going to games with the "van gang". He will be missed by many, including me!
