Shirley Ann Pohlable

1936 - 2021

Shirley Ann Pohlable died peacefully in her sleep on October 30, 2021, at the Wapakoneta Manor in Wapakoneta, Ohio.
She was born April 1, 1936, in Piqua, Ohio, the daughter of Harold A. and Mary Alice (Jessup) Harshbarger who preceded her in death. On May 26, 1956, she married Francis Eugene 'Gene' Pohlable in Wapakoneta's St. Paul United Church of Christ.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Gene; a daughter, Mary (Jerry) Brennan of Renton, Washington; a son, Ken (Polly) Pohlable of Lake Worth, Florida; three grandchildren: Michael Pohlable of San Jose, California, Michelle (Ransom) Miller of Lake Worth, Florida, and Kelly Brennan of Stanford, California; one great-granddaughter, Sonatina Grace-Ann Miller of Lake Worth, Florida; and one brother, Allen (Rita) Harshbarger of West Chester, Ohio.
Shirley was a retired Wapakoneta librarian of 26 years, starting at the Blume Memorial Library while in high school. She lived in New Bremen, Ohio, as a young child, when the Harshbarger family lost their farm near Pleasant Hill, Ohio, during the Great Depression. They moved to Wapakoneta in 1946. She graduated from Blume High School, Wapakoneta, in 1954.
She was a life member of PERI (Public Employee Retirees, Inc.). She was a longtime member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ, in Wapakoneta, where she was a Sunday School teacher and very involved in group Bible studies.
She loved playing the piano, genealogy, traveling with her husband and family, knitting, crocheting, crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She enjoyed fishing and was a longtime member of Brands Lake Fishing Club until 2011. She loved her family very much and really enjoyed the time spent with them.
There will be no visitation.
Mrs. Pohlable's cremains will be buried in Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta, at her family's convenience. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Auglaize County Humane Society.
