Agnes Brown Obituary
AGNES MARY BROWN FAIRFAX, VA May 28, 1928 - March 17,2022
A former elementary school principal in Fairfax County, Agnes Mary Brown, née Cunnally, born in Boston, Massachusetts, studied at the University of Massachusetts, Boston, as well as the New England Conservatory of Music, and began her teaching career in that city. Her desire to travel and to become acquainted with other cultures motivated Mrs. Brown to accept a teaching position with the Department of Defense American School in Fontainebleau, France, where she met and later married her husband, Colonel James J. Brown. While on active duty, the Browns and their son, Tom, were stationed in the United States and abroad. Of special interest were the years spent in Tokyo, Japan, and Wiesbaden, Germany. After the family settled in Northern Virginia, Mrs. Brown resumed her teaching career and become an administrator. Following her retirement, she volunteered at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum working as a docent and later serving on the National Board. She was a member of the Clifton Women's Club, the Country Club View Women's Club, the George Mason University Symphony, Fairfax County Retired Educators' Legato School, the Raleigh Tavern Society, and the Smithson Society. After joining the Country Club of Fairfax, Mrs. Brown became an active and avid golfer.
Her husband, son and sister, Rosemarie Jones, preceded her in death. Agnes Brown is survived by her brother, Thomas J. Cunnally, her niece, Janice M. Jones, her nephew, Robert A. Jones, Jr., her late husband's niece, Ashley Crow-Armstrong, her late husband's nephew, Randal Crow and many dear friends and neighbors.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Agnes Brown will be conducted on Friday, April 22, 2022 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of Sorrows Catholic Church, 10500 Zion Road, Fairfax, Virginia 22032. Interment services will be at Arlington National Cemetery on Thursday, July 14, 2022 at 9 a.m.
It is requested that any memorial gifts be made to the Colonel James J. and Agnes M. Brown Restoration Fund at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum.
