ALLAN WEINSTEIN Obituary

Allan Michael Weinstein
Born in New Haven, CT to Joseph and Ida Weinstein, beloved husband of 41 years of Linda and adored father of David and Jessica, died at age 70 at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital on April 1, 2019. He is also survived by his brother Robert E. Weinstein, his niece, nephew, and many close cousins. Allan felt honored to be a physician, and his compassion as a doctor led him down many paths. His varied professional pursuits were all focused on a single objective: developing innovative ideas to achieve better health outcomes. Allan was a kind, supportive, and positive force in the many lives that he touched. He loved nothing more than spending time with his cherished family and friends, and his loving and youthful spirit will endure in all of us. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 4 at Adas Israel Congregation in Washington. Interment will be private. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made in Allan's memory to So Others Might Eat (SOME) in Washington, DC.

I know Dr. Weinstein mostly through his children David and Jessica but I did have the chance to meet him briefly and for that I feel very fortunate. I am certain that he was immensely proud of the ethical and caring leadership that David has exuded in his business and personal endeavors and I'm sorry that the world lost Dr. Weinstein so soon. My condolences to the entire family.

Allan was the BEST asthma doctor I ever had and I was a patient of many. I sing his praises everyday as he cured me of my asthma. Thank you Allan. He was a wonderful human being, husband and father and will be greatly missed.
My love to Linda, David and Jessica.

The beautiful, brilliant and charming Linda, my law school classmate, was dating Allen, and put us together for tennis. He became my best buddy. A friend like no other. We had such fun together. Tennis of course, but what an opportunity to commune about everything and anything. With joy, insight, concern, kindness -- the time disappeared when with him. Best listener ever.

When David came along, and Id wait for Allen in his Potomac living room as he got ready for tennis and I became the 4 year old Davids plastic sword fencing partner a fierce persistent competitor. Allens love and encouragement of David and his love for his darling Jessica was as deep and tender as a parents love can be. And Allen never got over his fabulous luck in winning Linda.

He made a life-long imprint on all of our hearts. He contributed health, well-being and healing to his patients; and to family and friends too. He seemed to know we only have so long because he lived every minute as if it was his last. Cant help tearing up whenever I think he is not with us. He brought out that love in all of us lucky ones who knew him but we will at least have known him and can continue to feel his loving soul all our lives.

I worked with Allan 23 years ago and the impact he left on my life will never be forgotten. I worked as a nurse in his practice and he allowed us to feel so special and he taught us so much. I have never worked for anyone like him since. Our staff always felt like family. He will be missed by so many and my prayers are for those left behind. RIP Allan. I will never forget you.

Met Allan first day of registration at Meharry Medical College a predominantly African American Medical school summer 1975.We bonded immediately as two Jewish guys in the largely Southern Baptist population of Nashville, Tn., two Yankees He from Connecticut me from upstate N.Y., only to become room mates that first year until he transferred to Kentucky medical school. His laid back demeanor as he slouched around in his barefoot loafers and T-shirt belied the intense drive he had to bring medicine into the 21st century with his multiple innovations in the world of high tech medicine as he worked with a myriad of companies to better solve patients problems. But as a first year medical student as we would study together and ruminate over difficult concepts, I will never forget his opening 4 words to each potential problem, "now let's just see". We would shoot hoops, play tennis, and he was so good at each of these that it was just no contest, until I would get him on the golf course. The summer we spent after our first year, doing an externship in New Orleans, at a private hospital, I believe was instrumental in helping to develop his amazing caring empathetic bedside manner. We followed around on rounds a Dr. Daniel Goldman who would sit on the end of the patient's bed while he spoke to the patient, never in too much of a hurry to answer all of the patient's questions. Allan I believe already had this in him, but he pointed this out to me, strongly, as it made me a better physician. As others have stated, his love of family was intense, and I have wonderful memories of meeting his parents Ida and Joe. So he leaves Meharry in search of a woman he could date that had shared values, and he meets the love of his life, Linda, and was there a better marriage than theirs? 41 years! Two beautiful children. A full life well lived that ended far too soon. It's not fair. It's so difficult to wrap my head around this loss. Fair well, my friend, to the best person I have ever met.

Dear Family,
My sister Julie Perlman told me of Allen's death. I am so sad. Besides being a favorite cousin, Allen was my camp counselor at camp laurel wood. He took me under his wing when I was homesick. Later in life I saw him when I was in DC on business, he was always warm and made time to see me. I'm so very sorry about my lovely cousin, kind, handsome accomplished, gone too soon. His cousin Elliott would be so sad. All my love to the family.

I had the privilege and honor of working for Allan and being part of his wonderful staff for many years. He was an amazing doctor and educator but more importantly he was a man of honor and integrity who did things the "right way". I am so grateful for the opportunities that he gave to me and the encouragement that he provided along the way. His first priority was always his family and my prayers are with Linda, David and Jessica as they mourn this profound loss.

I first met Dr. Weinstein year's ago through the late George Michael. George said, "Dr. Weinstein cares about his patients on all levels and that's why you need to do whatever it takes to have him treat you, no one else!" Dr. Weinstein's office staff and associates were, and continue to be, the best in the medical field. His knowledge, insight, dedication, and compassion for others, should be the model for others to follow. Thoughts and prayers to Dr. Weinstein's family and colleagues.

Allan was such a visionary. He and I spent a lot of time looking at different ways to disrupt the healthcare space. I enjoyed all of his insight and knowledge and I will never forget him. He will be missed. May his memory be a blessing.

I was so lucky to have started working with Allan on his first day of practice. I got to watch his wonderful life unfold professionally and personally. It was such an honor to work with him for forty-one years. I learned so much from him but there are two lessons that stand out. The first is to always put your family first, because he loved his family completely. The second is that no matter what challenge or decision you are facing, just do the right thing, and you can never go wrong. He will be missed so much. Sending all my love and condolences to Linda, David and Jessica

As Allan's allergy and asthma practice associate for over twenty years I can state with absolute certainty and clarity that Dr. Allan Weinstein was one of the smartest most caring physician I have ever known. He embodied what it means to be a healer of body and soul. Many times he would say to me practicing good medicine is about always putting the patient first. His practice was and continues to be successful because of his staunch belief in that philosophy. I will miss him.

Allan was a dear friend for close to 40 years. While I was his attorney and adviser during those many years, it was I who learned so much from him about life, respect for other people, setting the highest of standards, showing warmth and interest in others, and the importance of being the best father, husband and friend. Allan's passing will leave a huge void in my life...but he will live on through the many family members, friends and business colleagues who will continue to tell his story. Hugs....Steve
