Arthur Binette Obituary



BINETTE ARTHUR J. BINETTE On Wednesday, July 2, 2008 in La Plata MD, Arthur Joseph Binette, devoted husband of Gladys Binette, father of John and Jim Binette, father in law of Lucy and Carol, grandfather of Cindy, Amy, Joy, Lauren and Kevin, great grandfather of Haley, and grandfather-in-law of Wes, Rob, and Sharlene. Loved by all that met him. He was born July 5, 1928 in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. He joined the Navy in 1945 and served his country as Chief Petty Officer on various ships including aircraft carriers USS Forrestal and USS Okinawa. He completed three world cruises and also served with the Navy‘s Red Rippers Fighting Squadron, the Experimental Diving Unit, and had assignments at the Naval Air Station and the Pentagon. During his twenty year career, he received numerous awards including the World War II Victory Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Following his Navy career, he was an executive at Pargas in Waldorf, Maryland, a Purchasing Officer at Army Times Publishing, and started his own restaurant. He retired from the Mount Vernon Foundation in 2006. He was a proud member of the Suburban Lions Club. The family will receive friends between 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. with Prayers at 7pm on Monday, July 7 at the Arehart-Echols Funeral Home at 211 St. Mary‘s Avenue, LaPlata, Maryland, 20646. Internment with full Military Honors will take place at the Arlington National Cemetery on August 28 at 2:45 p.m.
