What great lasting memories flood my mine and heart as I think of those precious years of knowing you and your remarkable joyous loving personality, faith in God and mankind. You toiled diligently for the RBC family. Because of that relationship we have this wonderful son-in-love and this beautiful, adorable family. I see many glimpses of you in Bennie and I smile and say "look at Pastor Johnson." Thank God for you and the never ending memories. Until we meet again. Rest. Joyce and Alvin

Bennie was an exceptional man. He was the epitome of a husband, father, son and brother. To know him was to know a true servant of God who answered the call to shepherd God´s sheep. When Flossie and I became sisters through faith, he became my brother as well. I will always treasure the memories of him and the impact that he had on the lives of me, Jim and Marcus. Flossie, Bennie, Brian and Brandon, take comfort in the legacy of love, family and faith that Bennie left. I´m certain that he is proud of his three sons and his grandchildren. Flossie, I know that Bennie is smiling and pleased to see your strength and perseverance. His love will always be with us.

My dearest Bennie,
In Remembrance of year 20 of your passing as we remember your life and celebrate all the wonderful memories we have....
We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Thessalonians 1:3 NIV).
When you took your flight home to be with our Father, there were many times I felt I could not continue on this journey called life. I felt as though a part of me left too! I felt lost and lonely.
I missed you so much, every moment and every memory. More importantly, I missed us!! But the Holy Spirit took me by the hand and laid out my path before me.
I thank God for our wonderful life together for over 31 1/2 years. I thank God that we started our family together. and raised 3 remarkable young men. I thank God that he turned all of those memories into a treasure. I can cherish and view them whenever I want.
Bennie, we will cherish the precious memories we have of you and remember your amazing life. It was through the life you lived and through your sermons that you gave in which you exemplified faith, love and hope. I thank God that when I needed to revitalize my faith, rekindle my love, and refortify my hope, He blessed me with the growth of our family to include 4 precious grands, another loving mate for me, close family and friends, and a beautiful fulfilling life.
Faith gets us headed in the right direction. Love gets us moving. But, only hope keeps us moving when the going gets tough. May the winds of heaven blow softly and whisper in your ear how much we love and miss you. Always on my mind, forever in my heart, my soul knows you are at peace and you are resting in Jesus!! My hope is that we will see you again. Love Always Flossie

It's hard for me to believe it has been five years since we lost Bennie. When May 13... his birth date comes around, I think of him fondly. He was a good friend, who always gave me support and encouragement. Many days I think of that and wish he was here.

Dear Flossie,
We have known each other for quite some time and I'm so glad that our paths crossed. I remember when I first met you. You came to see me after your rotatator cuff surgery. You spoke of your husband so many times and I loved hearing it because it reminded me of my relationship with my husband, I didn't think another man like that existed (smile). We have remained friends and I'm so glad that we did. You have clearly shown me how to be strong through difficult times. When Rev.Bennie Johnson passed I didnt know what to say or what to do, but you did. You graceful handled things in a way that left me speechless. You rose to the occassion eventhough you lost your husband and your best friend. I only hope I will be able to rise to the occassion when I go through trials and tribulations. I love you, as a friend, a patient and sister! I'm so proud of how you have mourned your loss, but continue to live life. To me that's amazing. I hope we continue to be friends forever. You really are quite a lady!
I love you.

My Dear Flossie,
Words cannot express what I really want to say to you. I can truly say that you, Bennie, your mother (Mother Fleming) and your sons have added richly to my life. My mind goes back to when you and Bennie were married, when each one of the children were born, the times both of you shared your home, food patience, and love with me, the times we were blessed to share Christmas Concerts at our churches with each other, the times that we prayed together, along with the many times that Bennie and I worked together so closely with the Mass Choir, and so many, many other things.
For over thirty (30) years you have been a blessing to me, and I am truly thankful to have you as a friend, a confidant, and a sister-in-Christ.
You were doubly blessed, because of the fact that your marriage to Bennie was "straight from heaven", and it lasted for many years.
Although Bennie is now at Home with the Lord, God has not stopped smiling on you! You have been blessed with 3 adult sons to carry on the family name, 2 daughters-in-law (so far), and a grandson. Is God awesome -- or what ?
In closing, I just want you to know that you are in my prayers, and I want you to continue to look to the hills from whence cometh your help! Continue to be encouraged, teach His Word, stand up for Jesus, and give Him ALL of the glory, whiile the blood still runs warm in your veins.
You have been an example to so many men, women, boys and girls, and the Lord is not finished with you yet.
I love you, and your family, and I thank you for sharing your blessing with me, my mother, and so many, many others.
Love,
Yours sister-in-Christ,
Celeste

Dear Flossie:
As you know, each day that passes pushes you closer to easing the hurt that I know you and your sons feel. Bennie did so much in such a little time and that settles everything in my heart that God had this planned from the first day of his life. I take comfort in knowing that he did God's will and if we all strive to reach the goal that God has set for us, we will see him again. Take care and know that you and your sons are always in my prayers. Your cousin.

It is hard to believe that a year has nearly passed since we said so long to our beloved pastor and friend. We thank God always for just knowing and loving Pastor Johnson. Our family was blessed just having known him as our friend, our leader and our pastor. Johnson was a good teacher and mentor. I miss that! I miss his leadership and teaching at Wednesdays bible study. I miss his tidiness and neatness. However, the memory of my pastor, Rev. I first met Bennie @ Greater Mt Pisgah Baptist Church, even after he became a minster he remained easy going and was always up spirited. I remember visiting him in the hospital, he would call me "his personal nurse" and I would call him "my favorite patient", whenever you left his room you would be the one feeling better because he found a way to cheer you up instead of you lifting his spirits. That's just the type of great guy he was all the time. He was one in a million, just know that now he is with God, and God makes no mistakes. I will miss Bennie very much. We use to talk at work all the time about our churches, friends in the ministry. Bennie was a nut. We would argured about who was the oldest. The first day I started working with GSA/FSS/FI, I became a member of the "CREW" and Bennie made me feel right at home by treating me just like he treated everyone else, by telling it like it is. He had just gotten his new Cadillac, and I had the pleasure of riding with him to the CREW lunchen. When we got back to the office he told me I had to pay for the gas because I was new (smile). From that first day I felt as if I had been friends with Bennie and the CREW for a life time. Thanks Bennie for the friendship and fellowship because that is just how it feels when ever we together. Your memory will live on with the CREW, you will be missed but we know now you are with you heavenly father telling him exactly how it is. Thanks for being you and for allowing me to become part of the CREW because I have a feeling if Bennie said no I would not have become part of the CREW! .

I was very saddened and shocked to hear of the death of my BEST, BEST, BEST friend. I will truly miss those late night telephone calls, sometimes as late as midnight, which started with this statement "Hey Sylvene WHATCHA DOING". Dear Sis. Johnson and Family,
We want you to know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. Please remember that God's Word provides promises of His comfort and hope. Jesus said, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in Me will never die." John 11:25, 26. Pastor Johnson is living with Jesus; he was truly a blessing to our family and we were fortunate to have had the oppurtunity to witness his love for Christ and learn more about God's Word through him. God's Word says "'Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you... Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.'" John 14:27; "I am the Lord, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you 'Do not fear; I will help you.'" Isaiah 41:13; "Thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." I Corinthians 15:57. We pray that God's hope-filled promises bring comfort to your souls and peace to your hearts.

To the Johnson Family,
I worked with Bennie for the last 10 years. For the last several years, Bennie has been the government project manager for TARPS and ASPA, and I have been the contractor project manager. We didn't always agree, but we always were working for the best solution to all problems. We worked together, struggled together, and laughed together. When Bennie came to the office a few weeks ago, he and I talked for a long time about the people we have known and worked with over the years. I'm very thankful that we had that time to remember!
Last year when my mother died, Bennie was kind enough to speak at her funeral. I saw an entirely different and impressive side to him that day. He brought comfort to all that were there. I only wish that these words can bring some comfort to you.

Mrs. Flossie Johnson and family:
Please accept my sincere condolences. My prayers are with you and the family.
Rev. Johnson was a kind and loving person. He always showered me with words of encouragement even during the loss of my father. Someone told me one year ago during the passing of my father, "People and situations will change, things will come and go in and out of your life. Yet nothing good is ever lost. The love you know stays with you always, even when the person you love is no longer with you. The good things you do stay with you always, even when time has erased all physical evidence of them."
May it comfort you to know that others are praying with and for you.

To the family of pastor Johnson,
I first met Bennie while a student at Howard University's Divinity School. Since that time the news of the wonderful work he did to build the Kingdom of God inspired me. He was a wonderful man of God and I am better because I knew him. My prayer to you is that God bless you and keep you and give you peace during this season of sorrow.

To the Family of Rev. Bennie Johnson:
Please know that our hearts and prayers are with you. Rev. Johnson was a pillar in our community and, as a founding member of the Rock Creek East-Takoma Civic Association, his guiding principles live on in the Constitution and Bylaws he helped us create.
I sign this as a friend and neighbor and on behalf of the Rock Creek East-Takoma Civic Association.

To the Johnson family:
Me and my family prayers are with you in this time of sorrow. I have known Bennie my entire life, he was my next door neighbor on 19th St. NE along with Opal, Sonja, and Ms. Johnson. Bennie will be greatly missed in this world, even though he was older than me(in which I would always remind him every time I saw him, we could always talk on the same level, He was at one time the president of the Youth Usher Board of Greater Mt. Pisgah, which I was a member also. Have faith in God for he will see us all through troubled times, I am just blessed to have crossed paths in this life with such a wonderful human being.

To the Johnson Family,
I'm deeply saddened to here about the passing of Mr. Johnson.Unfortunately, I never really got the opportunity to thank him for what he's done. Not only for me but for the other young men that he has mentored as Scout Master for Troop 1611. Yeah, we enjoyed several camping trips and how to make Funnel Cakes but it was the character development and moral values that stuck with me. My thoughts and heartfelt sympathy goes out to your family.
...and for the record, his Grilled Cheese sandwiches where slightly better than my Grandmother's.

To the Johnson Family:
I am deeply saddened to have heard of the passing of my dear friend. Rev. Johnson and I became acquainted through our jobs and attended many meetings together. We became buddies and shared many meals (we both loved good food) and great conversations. He visited and prayed with me after my heart surgery in 2000 and gave me encouragement. Before I found out he was a minister/pastor, there was something about him that just drew my attention. I soon found out it was the life he lived and the God he served. I will miss him. I offer my prayers to you along with my heartfelt sympathy. May the Lord watch over and take care of you and may your memories of his goodness last for a lifetime. God Bless you all.

For there are no words to express the love I have for this man and his family. I feel great peace and joy that a man of such intergrity and character has gone on to recieve his crown in glory. I can picture him saying, just like Jesus told the women that followed him all the way to his death on the cross. "Don't cry for me". We cry, but we have to understand that Pastor Johnson is now in the place that we are all working towards. He has made it to a place where there is no sickness, no more death, no more sorrow, and no more sin. GLORY BE TO GOD. God knows that we will miss Pastor Bennie, but never again say that a loss has taken place, for when the Lord cracks the sky we will be taken up in a twinkling of an eye to reign TOGETHER with Him. The key is TOGETHER. Pastor Johnson can't wait to see you in that day. Your loved ones and my loved ones TOGETHER.

LAMPLIGHTER
"He has taken his bright candle and is gone
Into another room we can not find,
But anyone can tell where he has been,
By all the little lights he leaves behind."
Dearest Flossie, Bennie, Brian and Brandon,
Our love, prayers and thoughts are with you now and in the tomorrows that come. Pastor Bennie was indeed a Lamplighter and his legacy will forever shine on, for your strength truly bears witness, that this is so. Be encouraged in The Lord, for He is your strength.

To Sis. Johnson and Family, I and the members of Trinity Baptist Church (Rev. William Banks Jr., Pastor) have truly lost a good friend. During the construction of our new edifice, we could always count on the support of Rev. Johnson and the Resurrection Church family. Rev. Johnson and Resurrection was so kind to allow us to use their church for baptismals, weddings and funeral services. I am Trinity's Church Secretary and when I would call Rev. Johnson to set-up a calendar date, he was always so kind and friendly. He always kept you laughing. Please know that you are in our prayers. If there is anything we at Trinity can do for you, please do not hesitate to call.

A man is not measured by his words, but but his deeds. I clearly remember the kindness and compassion of Mr. Johnson when I was very young. He & Mrs. Johnson opened there house up to a bunch or crazy ragtag boys from Bunker Hill. He treated us all like his own boys. His compassion is something I can never forget. Do not feel sorrow, but gratitude, for he gave all he had to his family and his community. As long as his memory lives on... he lives. Celebrate his living. Peace! -RoB Gill
