Donald DiSpirito Obituary

Donald "Don" Daniel DiSpirito, age 90, of Annandale, VA, passed away on February 26, 2024. He was born on August 25, 1933, in Woonsocket, Rhode Island.
Don was a generous, compassionate man dedicated to his family. He received degrees from Univ of Rhode Island, University of Bridgeport, and PhD in Higher Education Admin from University of Pittsburgh. Don served in the Navy on the U.S.S. Rosevelt. He worked on Capitol Hill, as assistant to a RI congressman. He later pursued a career as college educator, and as Director of Education and Research for national associations. He authored two books, "Spirit of Christ".
He led the ACCA furniture program, and often drove a box truck of furniture for low income families. Serving those in need was his life's mission. In a final act of generosity, Don donated his body to medical science at Georgetown Medical School to benefit others struggling with Alzheimer's.
Don was the youngest of nine siblings from an Italian immigrant family. He cherished annual trips to Rhode Island, where he enjoyed spending time with family. He worshipped at St. Michaels and St. Anthony's Catholic Churches, and enjoyed tennis, football, volunteering, and reading.
Don leaves behind his wife, Mary Lee; and his daughter LeeAnn. He was preceded in death by his mother Anne Tedeschi, father Angelo DiSpirito, and siblings Bertha, Angelo, Julie, Arthur, Luigi, Robert, Gloria, and Ernest.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 3305 Glen Carlyn Rd., Falls Church, VA 22041 at 12 Noon on Saturday, May 4, 2024, a reception to follow. Oh Mary Lee, I was so blessed to know Don. After every Mass at St.Michael´s, Don always had a smile and a kind word.
It was wonderful to work on the crib project with both of you. This work developed into a 50C3, www.ProjectManger.org
His legacy will continue for generations. I pray he is in the arms of our Heavenly Father, hearing the words, "Well done, my good and faithful servant."

Just learned of Don's passing recently and remember him as a kind and gentle man, I had the pleasure of working with him in the early 1970's and had the greatest respect for him as a man of strong principles. We staying in touch over the years until recently and he was a man I always looked up to. Our sympathies to Mary Lee and Lee Ann. May he rest in peace.

Anyone who has been fortunate to have "Uncle Don" in their life has been touched by his attentive caring, his wisdom and his generosity. He has been a spiritual mentor for me - a man humbly devoted to God and the Church, who spoke so eloquently about the heart of God, and who lived the charity of the Gospel each and every day. May he rest in peace in God´s eternal embrace.
