Donald Schwinn Obituary

SCHWINN, DONALD EDWARD, ESQ.

Died peacefully in Scottsdale, AZ on November 7, 2002. He was seventy-eight. Mr. Schwinn was predeceased by his beloved wife, Bonnie Jeanne and their infant daughter, Siobhan. Born the second of five children to Charles and Mary Schwinn on June 5, 1924 he grew up in Cedar Rapids, IO. Having earned a scholarship from Morgan Park Military Academy. He graduated in 1942 and enlisted in the Army. He was a decorated combat infantryman serving in Europe during World War II. Mr. Schwinn attended Coe College. Thereafter, he earned a masters degree in economics from Columbia and his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. Following law school, Mr. Schwinn worked for the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. He met Bonnie while working on a field assignment in California. They were married July 25, 1953 and soon moved to Salt Lake City, UT where they had six children. Mr. Schwinn was an attorney for Kennecott Copper Corporation. He spent most of his career with the Western Mining Division in Salt Lake. He also spent ten years at corporate headquarters in New York City. He retired as Associate General Counsel in 1980. He was an active member of several political and professional associations serving as President of the Salt Lake County Bar Association in 1967. Mr. Schwinn was predeceased by his older brother, Pete. In addition to his sister, Betty Phelan, brothers, Bob and Fr. Tom, Don is survived by his devoted children, Mary Testani of New York; Steve Schwinn of Rockville, MD, Bonnie Brillas of Scottsdale, Jack Schwinn of San Diego, Sean Schwinn of Seattle; their families and many dear friends.
