EDRA R. DERRICKS (Age 93)
Peacefully passed away on Friday, December 28, 2012. Loving mother of Cynthia Celey, Arnida B. Lamont, Natambu El. Shabazz (Ife), Fahamme Conley (Mwata), George Ball (Daisy), William Ball (Katrina), Malika Abdullah, Herbert Abdul-Kareem, Aneesa Addur-Salaam (Abdul-Raqeeb); 36 grandchildren; 73 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. On Saturday, January 5, 2013 family will receive friends for viewing at 10 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 12 noon at St. Augustine Catholic Church 1419 V St. St., NW. Intement Mount Olivet Cemetery.

To My sweet,darling,big sister(inside joke) I will allways remember the good times walking through the woods on Mt.Olivet road picking berries,and going to Learners to eat tuna fish sandwiches and banana splits. And never will forget your quick whittiness at what ever is said there was a smart but funny answer. I love You Ma Forever will you stay in my heart. You are a walker, so walk around heaven all day ,and if you should see Troy, Russell, and Jahi give them a big hug and kiss for me and tell all those drummers to play Lamba from Me to You RIP with lots of love Titilewa(freda).Crying tears of joy.

Aunt Edra, you are truly an angel and God gave you your wings to fly home. You will be terribly missed by all. I'll miss your laughter, jokes, hugs, and cooking. RIP Auntie and tell Dad I said hi. You maybe gone but never forgotten.

I first met Ms. Derricks in the Pan-African community at Nation House and then at Saint Augustine Catholic Church. Her presence was revered in both communities as the respected elder that she was. I give thanks for her presence in my life and I extend my condolences to her family, extended family and long-term friends.

To Arnida and all of the family, I met Edra over 40 years ago at C&P telephone co as an operator and recently at the Hattie Holmes Wellness Center for Seniors. She laughed and had a great sense of humor . You have my sincere sympathy for the loss of your special and loving mom. I hope fond memories of her life bring all of you peace. Mrs. Derricks was a long-time and faithful parishioner of Saint Augustine Church. It was a pleasure to see her there every Sunday, sitting in her regular pew greeting all who stopped by to say hello. Her Sunday dinners were amazing, delicious and joyfilled. Ms. Edra, your bright spirit and beautiful smile will surely be missed. May you rest in peace and may God's blessings be with the family during this time of sorrow.

(Mrs. Derricks) They don't make them like her anymore. Her infectious laughter and cheerful nature has always brought joy in everyone's lives. We know you miss her terribly, and we miss her just as much. We will continue to honor her memories and have you in all our prayers.
