GREGORY LaROCCA Obituary

GREGORY A. LaROCCA
It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Gregory A. LaRocca, formerly of Front Royal, VA, on September 30, 2014, at the age of 67 after a brief battle with glioblastoma multiforme. Greg was preceded in death by his mother, Jean F. LaRocca, and is survived by his sons, Christopher D. LaRocca (Orlando, FL), Dominick A. LaRocca (Pensacola, FL); father, Dominick X. LaRocca (Sandy Springs, GA); sister, Alice LaRocca (San Francisco, CA); brother, John R. LaRocca (Paulette) (Providence Forge, VA); nieces, Lauren LaRocca (Matt Diskin) (Gladstone, MI) and Teresa Hall (Hart) (New York, NY); a large extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins; and numerous friends. Greg had a big heart with a strong passion for life and people. His strong and friendly personality touched everyone who had ever met him. Greg was well known and respected in his life and will be sorely missed by many family members, friends and acquaintances. Sporting competition was a major interest of Greg's. He was an avid golfer with a single digit handicap, and greatly enjoyed the competition and camaraderie with his golfing buddies at his Shenandoah Valley Golf Club in Virginia. Greg was also a life-long, devoted fan of the NY Yankees baseball team. He got great joy watching the recently televised career-ending Yankee games for his favorite player, Derek Jeter, whose leadership and role model characteristics Greg greatly admired and espoused for his two sons. The family wishes to thank the devoted team of doctors, nurses, therapists, and support staff at the Veterans Administration Medical Centers in Baltimore and Atlanta. Greg's family would like to especially thank the entire staff of the 2nd floor of The Eagles' Nest Community Living Center at the Atlanta VAMC whose compassion and care enabled Greg to live his last months in peace and comfort. The kindness and support by these wonderful people deeply touched Greg and his family. The family would also like to thank everyone for their many thoughts and prayers during Greg's final journey. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, October 6, 2014, at Saint Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 7171 Glenridge Drive in Sandy Springs, GA at 10:30 a.m. A reception for family and friends will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions may be made to the Atlanta VA Voluntary Services Department (notation: for "the CLC"), 1670 Clairmont Road, Decatur, GA 30033.

Growing up in Arlington Forest, I clearly remember the friendship my Mom and Dad had with Greg's beautiful Mom and Dad, Jeanne and Nick Larocca, and their children John, Greg, and Alice. The Family was a blessing to us all! Praise God that Greg is absent from the body and now present with His Lord & Saviour Jesus (2 Corinthians 5,8)!

I lost track and haven't seen you in years. I have tons of memories from all the good times we had at St Thomas More and Wakefield High. I have missed you all these years and now I'll miss you forever. Rest in peace, my friend.

I was very sad to here about Greg. I recall many years ago in Arlington Forest all the good times we had playing sports together even though I could not come close to Greg's ability in any sport. We all enjoyed growing up together. My heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with all the family members at this difficult time.

With deepest sympathy, Mike Motley

Greg LaRocca is going to be impossible to replace as a dependable golfing partner/opponent and leader of our winter time bowling fun. I've been around Greg for about 7 years and loved his competitive spirit even when we were on the opposite side of the match or the argument. We're all going to miss pulling into the parking lot at SVGC and not seeing LaRocca's 2DNPRS license plate waiting for us. Godspeed Greg LaRocca you were one of a kind....

My thoughts are with your family in this difficult time. May all the wonderful memories you have bring you peace. I hope you can all have a lobster dinner and toast this wonderful man!

I went to Wakefield High School with Greg and had lost track of him for many years. However as fate would have it I ran into him at Shenandoah Valley Golf Club several years ago. When I ran into him our conversation picked up like we last saw each other the day before not like it had been over 30 years since we had seen each other.I looked forward to those Saturday and Sunday meetings at the course when we would laugh and talk about the good old days when we were young kids in high school. Greg was the same now as he was when we were kids. I will sorely miss those Saturdays and Sundays, so when I pull into the parking lot I will always look to the heavens and say good morning to him and hope someday we will be together again and play the big course in the sky. Rest in Peace my FRIEND.
