My deepest condolences to Joe´s family. Joe and I were close friends while he lived in Bethesda. He often spoke about his loving family. He loved good wine and just the other day, I found that I still had a $50 bottle of wine that he brought me. I shall open it and say a toast to a kind, sweet man.

Please accept my sincere sympathy for the passing of Joe. He and my husband Nelson worked at the FAA together. He as extremely kind and generous to Nelson and hopefully they are in a better place together planning a meeting on aircraft safety.

We have been praying for him every day for the last 2 years. His generosity, his sense of purpose, of mission touched me deeply when I interviewed him to become a Leader at the Stephen Ministry at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, in Bethesda. He said to me that he had received so much from the Lord, that he felt that whatever he did for others wouldn't be enough... He was so impressive in his simplicity, in his kind approach to others... Surely Our Loving Lord has him at his right, enjoying His Peace and Glory for ever.

I am so saddened to hear of Joe´s passing. He broke the mold in so many ways during his life. His leadership at the FAA was an inspiration to me and many of my colleagues. Joe possessed that unique quality of a leader; he was a LISTENER. He was also a strategic thinker. He was a dedicated public servant, making his mark of the nation´s air transportation. Whenever Joe spoke, it was virtually impossible not to be pulled in by his calm demeanor, soft but confident voice, and riveting cadence. While I was at MITRE, I had the opportunity to watch Joe and Jack Fearnsides, VP/GM of MITRE´s Center for Advanced System Development, work through many thorny technical and political issues. The aviation community has lost a great man, but he has left his mark. My deepest condolences to his family.
