LAURA MARIE LEARY ELLIOTT
On Monday, May 6, 2013, Laura Marie Leary Elliott went home to be with her Father in Heaven. She was welcomed by her late husband of 39 years, Allen R. Elliott. She is survived by her son, Reginald; her daughter, Rachel; her granddaughter, Aleida Weslie Sykes; eight brothers and sisters, Barbara Leary, Ruth Asbury, Elmer Leary (Pattie), Linwood Leary (Josephine), Sandra Grissom, Oliver Leary (Donna), Shirley Staten, and Harold Leary; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, extended family and friends. Her loving spirit, regal demeanor and infectious smile will be missed by all. Services will be held Monday, May 13 at First Baptist Church of Highland Park, 6801 Sheriff Rd., Landover, MD 20785. Viewing will begin at 10 a.m. and memorial service will begin promptly at 11 a.m. Arrangements by Bianchi Funeral Service.

The African American alumni community at East Carolina University appreciate Mrs. Leary Elliott paving the way for us. We are glad she had the opportunity to visit the campus last year and share her story. Her legacy lives on with us and we will make her proud.

To the Elliott and Leary Families: I had the pleasure of meeting your mother and sister during my sophomore year at ECU. She had an infectious smile that warmed the coldest heart. Believe me, during those turbulent days, she gave us all encouragement to stay the course. Though she stayed the course, I left ECU and returned to Johnson C Smith Univ. After leaving ECU, I lost contact but I will always remember that infectious smile and tenacious spirit. May God guide her children and her siblings during this very difficult period.

Please know that I express my sincerest condolences on the passing of your mother. I remember your mother when I was a little girl as she came up to Ardmore ES to volunteer. She would always light up a room with her personality. She will be greatly missed. Know that she and your father are now together and watching over you and Aleida.
