MURIEL ALTMAN

Muriel Joy Holt Altman  (Age 97)  
Formerly of Youngstown, Ohio, passed away on December 8, 2018 surrounded by family in her home in Chevy Chase, Maryland. An informal memorial service was held at her home on December 9, filled with testimony of her indomitable spirit, her deep impact on those who knew her, and the profound affection in which she was held. A formal service will be held at 10 a.m. on January 13, 2019 at King David Memorial Gardens followed by a gathering of family and friends.Muriel was born to Leo and Dora Holt, and was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, George L. Altman. She attended Rayen High School and Ohio University. Muriel was a teacher, personnel manager, and most especially a mother and friend to many well beyond her immediate circle. Muriel and George's homes in Ohio and Maryland were the meeting place and wellspring for friends and family from far and wide.She is survived by her beloved brother and sisters-in-law (Allen and Rene Holt, Donna Holt); children, Jim (Rita), Tom (Barbara), Richard (Diana), Scott (Cindy) and Barbara Altman; grandchildren, Emily (Doug) Jacobs, David, Michelle, Jeremy, Tim, Debbie, Sander, Jessica, Asher, Michael and Bradley Altman; international exchange student sons, Horacio Moldavsky (Argentina) and Per-Olof Mannerford (Sweden); nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and dear friends whom she considered extended family.Muriel's life was a testament to the power of civic awareness and world-wide understanding and friendship. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice or one of Muriel's favorites, which include the American Field Service, Planned Parenthood, the League of Women Voters, and the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation "Dora & Leo Family Fund" (supporting workforce development in Youngstown, Ohio).
