PETE STATHOPOULOS Obituary

PETE STATHOPOULOS
Pete Stathopoulos, 88, of Palaio Faliro, Greece, died on December 31, 2020, from complications of pneumonia in Glyfada, Athens, Greece. He was born in Sellasia, Laconia, Greece, on June 10, 1932, son of the late Thomas and Vasiliki Stathopoulos, younger brother of Constantine (deceased). He is survived by two sons Thomas (Berkley, Michigan) and Alex (Colonel, USAF, Ret, Arlington, Virginia). Pete lived the American dream. He grew up during the Nazi occupation of Greece and Greek Civil War, and immigrated to Washington DC in 1948. After graduating from Theodore Roosevelt High School in 1952, Pete enlisted in the US Air Force in 1953. His 20-year Air Force career included several stateside tours and tours in Germany, Turkey, and Greece. In 1962, Pete married Ioanna (Dimitriou) of Palaio Faliro, Greece. After retiring from active duty, Pete worked as an Air Force civilian, before repatriating to Port Jefferson Station, New York in 1977. In 1989 he retired to Greece with Ioanna. Pete enjoyed golf, bowling, talking about current events, billiards, and travel. He joins his beloved wife of 57 years, who reposed in the Lord earlier this year. The funeral was held at the Palaio Faliro Cemetery, Greece on January 2, 2021. For those who wish to donate in memory of Pete, feel free to support any Orthodox Christian Parish or charity, or Alzheimer's research. May his memory be eternal.
