MOORE Richard Davis Moore "Dick" Lieutenant Colonel, U.S. Army (Retired) Died peacefully at his home on November 23, 2021, in Clifton, Virginia. His beloved wife, Shirley was at his side. Dick was born in Bluefield, West Virginia on July 3, 1929. Dick and his family moved to Kentucky before settling in Richmond. After he graduated from high school, Dick attended the University of Richmond on an academic scholarship. Upon completing his freshman year at Richmond, Dick received an appointment to the United States Military Academy from Senator Harry Byrd of Virginia. He was a proud member of the Class of 1952 and graduated ninth in a class of 527 cadets with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. On Valentine's Day of 1953, Dick married the love of his life, Shirley Conwell, and they remained married until Dick's passing. Dick and Shirley had three children David, Bryan, and Karen. Dick's military assignments took him all over the world. His overseas assignments included: Korea, Vietnam, and Germany. His stateside assignments included multiple tours at Fort Knox, Fort Leavenworth, Fort Devens, University of Michigan, and the Pentagon. His favorite assignment was teaching in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the United States Military Academy. He was a proud armor officer and served at every level from platoon leader to battalion commander. His military awards and decorations include Legion of Merit, Bronze Star with two oak leaf clusters, Meritorious Service Medal, and Air Medal with V device and number 3. While serving in Vietnam, Dick commanded the 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, which was an honor for an armor officer to command an infantry battalion. While serving as the commander of an infantry battalion in combat, Dick earned the Combat Infantryman's Badge. In addition to his degree from West Point, Dick received a Master of Science in Aeronautical Engineer-ing from the University of Michigan. After he retired from the Army, Dick had a successful career as an international vice president with Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC). While at CSC, he worked many projects related to Army weapons systems and used his military experience to shape programs that impacted the Army's modernization efforts. Dick was a selfless servant that loved the Lord, and he always looked for ways to serve others. He was a key member of the Clifton Lions Club and was the first person to serve as president of the club twice. The club honored him for his many years of service with a lifetime membership in Lions Club International and progressive Melvin Jones fellowship. Dick is survived by his wife, Shirley, son, Bryan, daughter Karen Perry, his grandchildren, Aubrey Stalcup, Stephanie Loving, Lauren Perry, Brandon Perry, Aliya Perry, and his great grandchildren; Aiden and Andy Stalcup, Conor and Caleb Loving. Dick is also survived by his sister, Jacqueline Spiers. He was preceded in death by his son David, and his brothers Marvin, Owen, Stuart, and Robert Moore. The memorial service is set for Saturday, December 11, 2021, at the Christ Presbyterian Church, 12410 Lee Jackson Memorial Hwy, Fairfax, Virginia 22033 at 1 p.m. The family will receive visitors from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, December 10, 2021, at Demaine Funeral Home, 5308 Backlick Road, Springfield, VA. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Dick's life. Dick will be laid to rest with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
