Roland was a WW II crewman, a gunners mate, on the USS Ira Jeffery DE 63. He attended every ship reunion until his illness. Viola and "Rollie" were a wonderful couple loved by all. Rollie was always upbeat and very friendly to everyone he met. As a Master-of-Ceremonies at our banquets he was the best and always had good words to say about his shipmates. We miss them both. My thanks to Rollie's brother James for keeping me informed of his illness and passing.

He was such a nice man to talk with while my mother was at the same nursing facility for a short period following an operation. Even after not seeing or talking to him for several years, he still knew who I was, and even recalled my uncle by name who belonged to the same Masonic Lodge as he. He will be greatly missed, and our prayers go out to his entire family.

Such a sweet kind man. He came to visit my mother everyday when she was in the same rehab facility in Bowie during her re-cooperation from surgery although he only knew her through his brother.
