On Sunday, January 8, 2023, Edward Sander Gibson, loving husband, father and brother passed away at age sixty-nine in Boone, NC.
A true renaissance man, Sander's formal education consisted of receiving a Fine Arts Degree from UNC - Greensboro, but his education and his thirst for life-long learning didn't start or end there. He also attended East Carolina University, Ringling School of Art and NC State University. The classroom that Sander loved most was his own. If there was something he was interested in he taught himself: computers/technology, guitar, photography, cooking, sewing, bike building and repair, house design and construction, building sailboats, printing, welding, gardening and genealogy are just of a few examples of his creative spirit.
Sander's working career was as varied as his interests. He was an accomplished fine artist working in numerous mediums, including oils, watercolors, pastels, photography and sculpture, portraiture, landscapes and still life's. He designed, built, and renovated homes and even dabbled in product design.
Sander loved the water and especially the NC and SC coasts. While renovating a friend's beach house in Nag's Head, NC, he met his life partner of 32 years, Stacey. They eloped on the beach at Isle of Palm, SC and their daughter Kathleen was christened on that same beach.
Sander was best known for his gentle spirit and his expansive curiosity, two gifts that he generously shared.
He is preceded in death by parents Herb and Peggy Gibson and sister Suzanne Simmons. He is survived by his wife, Stacey Higgs Gibson, their daughter Kathleen Manning Gibson, brothers Herbert Martin Gibson Jr, John Paul Gibson and sister, Anne Gibson Poarch.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held in June 2023 at a location to be determined in the High Country of NC.
In lieu of giving flowers, the family asks that those who are able instead to donate to the Alzheimer's Association NC Chapter via https://www.alz.org/northcarolina
