John Young Obituary

Young, John D.

John D. Young, 62, of Enfield, entered into eternal peace Saturday, Jan. 25th, 2014 at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. The son of Norris and the late Evelyn (Herrick) Young, John was born and raised in Wausau, Wisconsin and was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin. He had lived in Enfield for the past 38 years and was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church. He had been employed at Westinghouse (formerly Combustion Engineering) for the past 40 years as a Nuclear Engineer. He was a talented diver from a young age, and was a diving coach at Springfield College and an assistant swim coach at Suffield Academy for many years. John enjoyed playing volleyball, as well as spending time outdoors both hiking and kayaking. He is survived by his three children, Jesse Young and his wife Catherine of Middletown, CT, Samuel Young and his wife Melissa of Vernon, CT, and Danielle Young and her husband Gregory of Bolingbrook, IL; his fianceé, Rosalina Silang; his granddaughters, Simona Young, and Myra Young; two brothers, James Young and his wife Nancy of Wausau, WI, Paul Young and his wife Sandra of GA; two sisters, Janet Smith and her husband Paul of MI, and Karen Zastrow and her husband Gregg of WI. He also leaves many nieces and nephews, as well as his former wife, Deborah Bradnan. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30th, 2014 at Calvary Presbyterian Church, 1518 King St., in Enfield. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lung Cancer Foundation of America. Whenever I am speaking to someone about integrity and kindness in a person, I use my brother-in-law John as an example. I think of him fondly and find myself missing his dry humor and easy manner. Great men leave lasting legacies.

If it wouldn't have been for John my oldest sister my older sister she would of drown at the Eau Claire Dells 45 years or so ago . Thanks for risking your life to save hers as she was sucked into a whirlpool.
