Jeffrey Whitley Obituary
Jeff was born on September 24th, 1956, in Carroll, Iowa, the son of Marie Ann (Crawford) Whitley and V. Scott Whitley. Jeff graduated from the Waverly-Shell Rock High School in 1975. In 1978 Jeff was united in marriage to Karen Kueker in Waverly. He graduated from Hawkeye Tech Waterloo with a degree in Electronic Engineering in 1981, and the family moved to Colorado, when Jeff started working for Western Electric. He then went to work for Martin-Marietta Space & Aeronautics where he indulged his passion for space, working on many projects such as the Magellan Space Craft. Jeff and Karen were divorced in 1996. In 2000, Jeff went to work for Thermo Fisher Scientific. He was a skilled technician on many of their systems, from Detectors for Electron Microscopes to Infrared and Ultraviolet Spectrometers. On July 4, 2008, he married Valerie Pittenger at their home in Lakewood. Val passed away in August of 2010, which deeply impacted Jeff.
Jeff is survived by his daughters, Faye Menzel of Waterloo, Iowa, Tara Whitley of Omaha, Nebraska; Step-son, Tyler Haupt of Colorado; his father, V. Scott Whitley of Waverly, Iowa; his sisters, Cindy (Kurt) Kugel and Heather McClatchey both of Waverly, Iowa; his grand dog Opie (the chiweenie); several nieces, nephews, cousins; and a host of friends. Whit was preceded in death by his wife, Val on August 27, 2010; his mother, Marie Anne Whitley on March 7, 2014; and his sister, Jill Elizabeth Miller on February 22, 2017.
Memorial services will be held on November 3, 2018, at 10 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Waverly, with Pastor Carolyn Bowers officiating. The family will greet friends on November 2, 2018, from 5 until 7 p.m. at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly. Memorials may be directed to the National Parks Foundation at https://www.nationalparks.org/. Online condolences for Jeff's family may be left at www.kaisercorson.com. My condolences goes out to the family, co-workers and friends. He had serviced our equipment at Lexmark International for the 11 years I have been there. I am so glad I have had the privilege to have known and work along side Jeff. He will be missed and never forgotten.
