John Adolf Biermann, 77, of Tripoli, passed away Saturday evening, July 9, 2016, at UnityPoint Health-Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.
John was born July 28, 1938, in Douglas Township, Bremer County, the son of Hermann and Clara (Buhre) Biermann. He was baptized Aug. 28, 1938, at St. John Evangelical Church-Siegel and confirmed his faith on June 1, 1952, at St. Peter Evangelical and Reformed Church in Tripoli. On July 9, 1961, he was united in marriage to Marlys Stumme at St. John Lutheran Church-Western Douglas.
John was employed by Farmers Produce in Tripoli and John Deere in Waterloo. Upon the passing of his brother Virgil in 1959, John returned to the family farm to assist his father. Over the years he farmed alongside his father, father-in-law Conrad Stumme, and then with his children. In 2001, John and Marlys moved off the farm and into Tripoli. Although off the farm, he remained a vital part of the farming operation up until the time of his passing.
John was an active member of his church and community. He served on the Faith United Church of Christ Church Council, was a member of the Wapsie Sportsmans Club and the treasurer of the Tripoli Area Improvement Association (TAIA), and was the Douglas Township Clerk for many years. What defined John, though, were the relationships he had with friends and family. Yearly trips to Canada, countless hunting adventures, family trips across the United States, telling stories, cracking jokes and just being "John". A kind, confident, proud and stylish man who lived his life to the absolute fullest.
John is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marlys, of Tripoli; sons, Lawain (Marcella) Biermann, of Tripoli, and Lowell (Linda), of Tripoli; daughter, Linda (Wayne) Anderson, of Tripoli; seven grandchildren, Andrew (Trista) Pattison, Blake Biermann, Michael Biermann, Brayden Biermann, Claire Biermann, Marina Biermann and Breven Biermann; a great granddaughter, Sloan Pattison; and a sister-in-law, Lorene Biermann, of Denver. He is preceded in death by his parents, son Larry Biermann, brothers Virgil and LaVern Biermann, and a sister Loraine Blasberg.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at Faith United Church of Christ in Tripoli, with the Rev. Marilyn Sargent officiating.
