Stanley Roose Obituary
Stanley James Roose, 72, of Waverly, formerly of Bristow, passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at his home in Waverly with his family by his side. He was born on Oct. 29, 1944, in Waverly, to Stanley Roose Sr. and Elizabeth Speedy Roose.
Stanley graduated from high school in Greene. He was united in marriage to Sandy Ott on Dec. 7, 1963, in Waterloo.
Stanley worked at Oliver after graduation and started farming with his father at age 21. He farmed for forty years with both his father and son Kurt. Stanley grew corn and soybeans and raised pigs and chickens.
He was an active member of the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church – Vilmar, where he served on the church council. Stanley enjoyed fishing, golfing at Round Grove Golf & Country Club in Greene, bowling at EL-Bar Lanes in Greene, spending winters in Florida, and watching sports, like Hawkeye basketball and football and Cardinals and Cubs baseball. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and enjoyed keeping up with all of their activities.
Stanley is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sandy Roose, of Waverly, son Kurt (Pam) Roose, of Bristow, daughter DeAnn (Jim) Feltz, of Ballwin, Mo., and son Travis (Christy) Roose, of Lebanon, Tenn.; grandchildren James, Kyle, Danielle, Justine, Megan, Jackson, Madeline, Audrey, Leo, Isaac, and Ethan; great-grandchildren Rebecca, Christina, Austin, Collin, Macy, Makenna and Alexis, sister Mary Roose Miller; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Stanley Sr. and Elizabeth, son Tim, twin-sister Susan and grandson Jamie.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 15, 2017, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church – Vilmar, rural Greene. Visitation was held from 4-7 p.m., Friday, April 14, 2017, at Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home in Allison. Burial took place in the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery – Vilmar, rural Greene.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Cedar Valley Hospice or to St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church – Vilmar.
