La PORTE CITY - Susan A. Hrubes, 72 of La Porte City, died Thursday, April 18, 2024, at UPH Allen Hospital. She was born December 29, 1951, in Mankato, MN, daughter of Glenn O. and Louise M. (Kramer) Thompson. Sue graduated from Woden Crystal Lake High School and attended NIACC.
She married Marvin Hrubes on July 25, 1970, at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Britt, Iowa. Together, they are members of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, La Porte City. Sue was the Deputy City Clerk for the City of La Porte City and then was the office manager for La Porte City Utilities.
Sue (mom, grandma, wife) was always focused on caring for others. She had the best advice and approach to raising us kids. Once we were grown, she embraced the role of grandma to her "Grands"- continuing to share her love and provide for others. She loved cooking, quilting, and knitting hats for newborns. She was kind and truly selfless. She was an amazing wife and a spectacular mom and grandma. She will be deeply missed by all that knew her.
Sue is survived by her husband, Marvin Hrubes of La Porte City. Daughter, Kristi (Todd) Butler of LaPorte City, and her son: Mike (Julia) Hrubes of Alexandria, MN. Four grandchildren: Torie, Scott, Tia and Ryan. Sister, Linda Rawitzer of Tucson, AZ and sister-in-law: Karen Thompson of Medford, OR.
She is preceded in death by her parents. Brother, Terry Thompson, and brothers in law: Roger Hrubes and Bill Rawitzer.
Thursday visitation will be from 4:30 to 7:00pm, April 25, 2024, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, La Porte City.
Friday visitation will be at 1pm on Friday, April 26, 2024, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Britt, Iowa.
Funeral services will follow at 2pm at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Britt, Iowa.
Inurnment will be in the St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Duncan, IA.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the La Porte City Fire Dept. or the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
