Joseph D'Andrea Obituary

Joseph M. D'Andrea, Jr. of Hamden, beloved husband of Gloria DiChello D'Andrea passed away peacefully on October 27, 2025. He was born in New Haven on August 17,1935 to the late Joseph and Angela Maturo D' Andrea, Sr. He was a graduate of St. Anthony Grammar School; Notre Dame High School; and Quinnipiac College, where he played varsity baseball and received the Athletic Hall of Fame Special Recognition Award. He also served for many years on the Quinnipiac Alumni Association Board of Governors; was a past president of the Alumni Association; and served on many committees including the annual Alumni Association Golf Tournament and participated in Career Days. He was very involved with coaching and managing softball teams in the Greater New Haven area. He was also a coach with the South Hamden Little League Baseball Association. Joe enjoyed many good times with all of his lifelong and close friends, and he looked forward to monthly luncheons with them. He loved going to New York Yankees games; watching UConn Women's basketball; and was an avid reader. He was a giving person who enjoyed helping others, always generous with his time and talent. A devout Catholic, Joe was awarded the St. Joseph's Medal of Appreciation by the Archdiocese of Hartford for his outstanding service to his church. Besides his wife, he is survived by his loving son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Alisa D'Andrea of Hamden. He was also devoted grandfather to Luca and London D'Andrea. Spending time with his family and supporting his grandchildren in their numerous activities was his greatest love. In addition, Joe was a devoted uncle to Michael (Caroline Fargeorge) D'Andrea; Tracy D'Andrea-Pitcher (Michael Pitcher); Kelly D' Andrea; Darline (Bryan) Morris; Melissa (Avni) Nimani; and Christina DiChello. He was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, Pasquale and Alice D'Andrea. Joe was a great guy, and Gloria is a wonderful person. When I was married to Vincent Lang, we had them over for dinner along with Jack and Joyce Larkin. Though they didn't like my chilled fruit dessert, I never held that against them. LOL. Especially since they brought Italian pastries! Rest in Peace, Joe. It was good knowing you!

I had the pleasure to work with Joe when he worked at WELI. He was one of the nicest people I met in the industry, and I´m very sorry to hear of his passing. May he rest in peace.

My family and I remember Joseph as a special and caring cousin who kept the family together with his holiday phone calls. They will be missed. RIP

Joe was my 1st cousin (nephew of my father) and such a kind and happy soul. We kept in touch by calling each other almost every holiday and Joe was pleased when he could call me first, before I had a chance to call him. How we laughed!
He was a dear man and I will miss his presence, even if it was by phone. My condolences to Gloria and family. With love, Joan D´Andrea Collins.
