Robert Amburn Obituary

Robert "Bob" L. Amburn, age 89, of Quincy, died on Saturday April 20, 2024. Bob was born January 20, 1935, in Quincy, a son of Robert W. and Leona (Siebers) Amburn. He married Helen L. Goodpaster on June 4, 1955, in St. Peters Catholic Church. They were married for 58 years until her passing in 2014.

Bob was a 1953 graduate of Notre Dame High School, where he was a talented athlete, playing football and baseball. He pitched in the finals of the 1952 IHSA State High School Baseball Tournament as a member of the Notre Dame Team that won 17 straight games, before losing in the tournament final. Bob was later invited to try-out for the St. Louis Brown's professional baseball team. He was an avid softball player on various men's teams in the Quincy area. Bob served in the U.S. Naval Reserves.

Bob was employed at Gardner Denver for over 40 years until his retirement. He was a member of St. Johns, and later St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church.

Survivors include his two sons, Jeffrey L. Amburn and his wife Mary Lynn of Helenville, Wisconsin; and Terry J. Amburn and his wife Linda, of Quincy.

He was a grandfather to Meredith (Adam) Wilcox; Bryant, Conner, and Gavin Amburn. Ashley (Patrick) Sandoval; Paige (Nate Wade) Amburn; Andy (Amanda) Lyons, Nicole (Nathan) Holtschlag; and Trent Lyons. Great-Grandfather to Olivia and McKenzie Wilcox, Abigail, Caden and Briella Sandoval, Wyatt Wade; Braeden and Isabella Lyons, Nick Crowder, Keaton and Noah Lyons, Grant and Hayes Holtschlag.

Survivors also include son-in law Chris Veihl, sisters-in-law, Joan Amburn, Sara Bittorf, and Toni (Terry) Tully. Brothers-in-law Tom Roberts, Robert Dolph and Terry Lewis. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Helen, a daughter Kathy A. Veihl; his brother Dave Amburn and numerous brother and sisters-in-law.

The family would like to thank all the caregivers at Curtis Creek for their wonderful care of Bob.

Services will be held on Friday, April 26, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Duker and Haugh. Interment will be in St. Peter Cemetery. Family and Friends are invited to visitation Friday morning from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at Duker and Haugh. Memorials are suggested to the Food Pantry of St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church or to the American Cancer Society. Messages may be shared online at www.dukerandhaugh.com.
