Walter was a funny and wonderful man and father, as well as a terrific skier. I have so many good memories of his stories and skiing with him and with his late son, Alex. Even the slowest lift went by fast, listening and laughing at his stories. He was an original. So sad he's gone.

Walter was my teacher, confidant, and advisor. Our daily breakfast chats fed more than my mind; Walter expanded my awareness of the world through stories he shared and first-hand knowledge he had based on his world travels.
Walter was one of the dearest people I have ever met. His love and appreciation for his family, his ski buddies, and his friends were unwavering. Walter made this world a better place.
I love you, Walter! Thank you for being such a blessing in my life.
My heart and prayers go out to the entire Fandel family.

I skied with Walter many times at Attitash but could never seem to catch him. He had no fear and loved the freedom of skiing. His stories over coffee were mostly about his European travels and his son Alex, who did pass before him.
Walter is now in ski heaven, making turns with the likes of Warren Miller.
Prayers and love to all of the Fandel family.

As a member of the ski club Walter will be forever remembered. Some of us had brief glimpses of this wonderful, fun man's history. On one ocassion driving home with him, he thought he needed to teach me how to drive a standard, we both laughed when he discovered I was old enough and knew how. And the stories I heard on that 2 hour ride will not be forgotten. Many a night in the kitchen with him as our newly taught salad maker, a job he took very seriously. It was sad to hear he would not be returning to the club. I'm sure all the members have stories and hope they will share them. Walter, you will be forever a Penguin!
