Peter Penni Obituary

Peter David Penni 4/15/42-7/28/18. Peter was born Marblehead April 15, 1942 to Samuel O and Bernice (Bunny) Penni. He passed away from pancreatic cancer at his home in York, SC July 28, 2018. Peter graduated from Star of the Sea school in Marblehead, St Johns Prep in Danvers (class of 60 where he lettered in football, baseball and track) and Boston College in Chestnut Hill (class of 64). Throughout his life no matter where his career took him, he maintained his connection and his love for his hometown and his classmates. He had a successful career in advertising sales, rising to radio sales manager at WTMJ in Milwaukee, and after a brief stop in Charlotte, a sales management position in television advertising sales in New York City. Eventually he retired to Florida for about 10 years, followed by a move to South Carolina. A lifelong supporter of both St Johns Prep and Boston College, he became president of the Milwaukee BC club which involved assisting in recruiting and interviewing prospective applicants. He also rose to the presidency of the Milwaukee Junior Chamber of Commerce after serving in many support roles. In addition to his love of family, his passion was BC sports, particularly football. He was a long time season ticket holder along with his father and brother. When in NY, and continuing through his tenure in Florida and South Carolina, he traveled to most home football games and many away games in the area. He was quite pleased when BC joined the ACC as many of the schools they play were within driving distance of his home in SC. Each year Pete would return to his hometown of Marblehead to support the North Shore Cancer Walk, specifically the Penni Family Fund for Oncology Care, a charity which many in his family support. It was a chance to see his family as well as honor the memory of so many family members who have been touched by cancer. Last year, even though he was dealing with his own pancreatic cancer, he proudly walked the entire 10k course without any assistance. For the past two years, he walked in the Purple Strides (Pancreatic Cancer Awareness and Fundraising) walks in both Charlotte, NC and Tulsa, OK. Throughout his life, even when facing the daunting challenge of his own cancer, Pete always had a smile, a quiet strength, a positive attitude, and willingness to offer help to anyone who needed it. He will be missed by all who had the joy of knowing him. Peter was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Christine (Devine) Penni of York, SC, his children Lianne (Kip) Kobussen of Stevens Point, WI, and Peter (Leslie) of Parker, CO, siblings Richard (Patricia) of Westwood MA, Daniel of South Dennis, MA, Suzanne Hannum (Chuck) of Tulsa, OK and Nancy Nash of Marblehead, MA. Peter was also blessed not only with four grandchildren-Jack Kobussen and Lindsey Kobussen of Madison WI, Peter Penni of Bainbridge IN and Monica (Kevin) Hobby of Ocala, FL, but also two great grandchildren. In addition, he still has considerable extended family in Marblehead. A funeral was held in York, SC, and his family will be supporting Peters memory at the Purple Strides walk in Charlotte, SC September 15. If you would like to donate to his team Every Penni Counts, you can do it by going to http: pancan.org/donate or sending to PanCan, 1500 Rosecrans Ave., Suite 200, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266 in his memory. But if you cant do that, simply try to continue his legacy of a smile and a little extra kindness each day. His family is most appreciative of your caring and support.
