Edith Hale Obituary

Edith B. (Woodman) Hale, 95, of Hudson MA, formerly of Norwood, died at home on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. She is predeceased by her loving husband of 62 years Ralph C. Hale. She leaves her children Paul Hale and his wife Louise, Karen Warren and her husband Kent, Laura Kent and her husband Stephen, Ellen Cantrill and her husband Wayne. She also leaves a sister-in-law Beverly Mahoney and eight grandchildren: Lori Zacharias, Amy McKeown, Adam Warren, Joshua Sampson, Rachael Ancahas, Daniel Sudberry, David Hale, and Brian Hale, as well as seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her granddaughter Kaitlyn Sudberry. She was born in Everett, MA, daughter of the late Willard and Mary Woodman. Edith was raised in Canton where she attended local schools and was a graduate of Canton High School. After marrying she moved to Norwood MA. where she lived for over 50 years. Prior to being married she worked at The Edison Company in Boston MA. After raising her family of four she returned to the workplace in a variety of positions. For many years she was an Administrative Assistant for the Massachusetts Social Services Department in the town of Norwood where she significantly impacted many people's lives. She was an active member of the Norwood American Legion Post 70. Her hobbies included camping, golfing, gardening, and playing scrabble, but her real gift was her crocheting. The benefactors of her many mittens, slippers, and afghans etc. included her family and friends, but also military personnel and the new born babies who were saved through the Clearway Clinic in Worcester MA. Calling hours at the Tighe Hamilton Funeral Home, (www.tighehamilton.com) 50 Central St., Hudson, MA will be held on Monday, Dec. 29th from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. If possible, please either wear or bring to the wake a gift that Edith might have made for you. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, Dec. 30th at 10:00 a.m., in St. Matthias Church, 409 Hemenway St., Marlborough. Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. in Knollwood Memorial Park, 321 High Street, Canton, MA. Edith specifically requested that flowers be kept to a minimum and that memorial donations may be made to: The Kaitlyn Sudberry Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Ellen Cantrill, 1860 NH Rt. 119, Rindge, NH 03461.
