Kenneth Brown Obituary

Kenneth Brown, 72, of Pembroke lost his courageous battle with cancer on September 20, 2018, at Brigham and Womens Hospital. The husband of Donna (Daley) Brown for 46 years, he was born in Plymouth, in 1945, the son of the late Raymond and Norma (Keevey) Brown. Raised in Whitman, he graduated from Whitman-Hanson RHS in 1963 and went on to Northeastern University where he earned a degree in Civil Engineering in 1968. At Northeastern, he was part of the ROTC program and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. Kenneth served a year in Viet Nam as a combat engineer. Returning home as a 1st Lieutenant, he completed his military service in the USAR Engineer Battalion at Fort Rodman, New Bedford. In 1971, he began his teaching career at Silver Lake Regional High School where he taught for 35 years. In 1977, he earned a Masters degree in Library and Instructional Media from Bridgewater State University. He started as a math teacher and transitioned to computer science and radio and tvproduction. For many years he served as the AV Director and advisor to scores of dedicated AV/Computer students. Additionally, he was an adjunct professor at Massasoit Community College in the Business/Computer Department. Ken loved to travel and he and Donna were instrumental in planning and sustaining the Silver Lake-Forrester (Edinburgh, Scotland) exchange program. Besides his loving wife, Ken leaves a daughter, Meghan Rebecca Brown of East Bridgewater, his sisters-in-law, Becky Daley of Hanson and Jaime Reid and her husband Chris of Scituate, a brother-in-law, James Daley and his wife Maureen of Hanson, Meghans special friend, Jaime Higgins of East Bridgewater and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves several furry friends, Coco, Aphrodite, Diana and Bridget. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, September 25, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 7 Mattakeesett St., Pembroke, with a funeral service to be held on Wednesday, September 16, at The Shepherd Funeral Home at noon. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Plympton. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kenneth Brown Scholarship Fund at any Rockland Trust Bank branch or mailed to Rockland Trust, Pembroke Branch, 147 Center St., Pembroke, MA 02359. Ken was one of my patients in Cardiac Rehab at SSH a few years ago and I am just so saddened to learn of his passing from cancer. I enjoyed out conversations and his face always lit up when he talked about his daughter. I also saw him many times at the Hanover YMCA continuing his exercise and loved seeing how well he was doing. Please know that I am keeping your family in my prayers.
