Helen T. Snow, 93, a long-time resident of Georgetown, died January 17, 2013 at Beth Israel Hospital after a short illness. She was born February 16, 1919, raised in Concord, MA. Helen was the daughter of the late Harold and Hilda (Wheeler) Tompkins. She graduated from Concord High School, then went on to graduate from Oberlin College in Oberlin, OH. There she met her first husband, Thomas Wood of Oberlin, marrying during the war. Helen worked at home while Tom was away, then they moved half-way between their two childhood homes to settle and raise a family. Their three children were born in the Rochester, NY area. They also lived in Blue Ridge Summit, MD and Hampton, NH, before moving to Georgetown in 1966. Helen was employed by Pingree Insurance Agency for many years, then worked part-time at Georgetown Insurance Agency before retiring in 1983 to help care for her grandchildren. Helen was a devoted member of the First Congregational Church of Georgetown, spending many years teaching Sunday School and playing in the Church's Bell Choir. She was a past President of the Georgetown Womens Club and a member of T.O.P.S. She loved children and music, enjoyed gardening, spent many hours doing both jigsaw and crossword puzzles, and was an avid reader. During her lifetime, she regularly volunteered to work for many charities, particularly those that supported children and bettering the environment. She was always adventurous, willing to help those in need, and a good friend to many people throughout her long life. Helen is survived by her son David Wood and his wife Kathy, of San Antonio, TX, and their sons Chad and Fred; daughter Margaret Smith and her husband David, of Georgetown, and their sons Zach and Justin; daughter Kim Behrens and her husband Scott, of San Antonio, TX; and three step- children, Will, Wes and Wayne Snow and their respective families.
