Thomas Allen Obituary

Thomas F. Allen Jr. of Hanover, passed on July 22, 2018. Born January 27, 1940, in Boston, Tom spent his youth in the Spencer Street and Owencroft Road areas of Dorchester and graduated from Cathedral High School in Boston in 1957. He briefly attended Fitchburg State Teachers College, where he excelled as a member on both their junior and varsity basketball teams. In 1960, Tom went on to serve his country as a boatswain's mate in the United States Coast Guard and during his service he met the love of his life Patricia, marrying her on May 27, 1963. Along with family, Tom had many loves in his life but none were more close to him than his Catholic faith and his loyalty to his brother knights within the Knights of Columbus; who as a Fourth Degree member served with distinction for over 58 years holding many position titles such as Grand Knight, Faithful Navigator, and District Deputy. His love for sports carried over locally with him coaching many Hanover youth teams and winning several championships together with his son Glenn in both basketball and baseball. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas F. Sr. and Ruth M. (Fenner), his wife of 53 years Patricia J. (Mathey), son,, Glenn, son-in-law, Jesus Muniz, and more recently his collie companion, Shiloh. He is survived by his son, Thomas F. III and his wife Karen of Walpole; and daughter, Cynthia Muniz of Florida. Tom was blessed with four grandchildren, Rachael A. Muniz, Joshua T. Muniz, Thomas F. Allen IV, and Christopher G. Allen; along with three great-grandchildren. His caring sibling family also includes a sister, Margery (O'Sullivan); and two brothers, Robert and Paul; along with loving nieces and nephews, and very close cousins and second cousins. Wake services will be held this Friday afternoon, July 27, at the Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington Street, Rte. 53, Hanover, from 4 to 8 p.m. and a celebration of life funeral Mass will be held Saturday, July 28, at 9 a.m., at St. Mary of the Sacred Heart Parish, 392 Hanover Street, Rte. 139, Hanover. Burial to follow at Hanover Center Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a contribution towards supporting cancer research to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168, is requested. For directions and to sign Tom's online guest book, visit www.SullivanFuneralHomes.com.
