John MacDonald Obituary

John B. (Jack) MacDonald, M.D. of Bonita Springs, Florida and Lincoln, New Hampshire passed away on April 1, 2015, at the age of 92. He was born in Sydney Nova Scotia on June 11, 1922. He served as a bomber pilot in WWII with the Royal Canadian Air Force. After the War, he graduated from McGill Medical School in Montreal Quebec. He fell in love with and was fortunate to marry Joan Vera Chappell in 1946 with whom he had nine children. She died suddenly in October 2005, after enjoying fifty-nine years of marriage with Jack. Jack began his medical practice in Lincoln, New Hampshire as a General Practitioner and later specialized in radiology and practiced in Winchester, Massachusetts. He retired from medicine at age 65. Jack was an avid skier, tennis player, golfer and cyclist. He shared his love for these and other pursuits with his family and often went on skiing, bicycling, canoe, and hiking trips with a number of his children. Jack always impressed upon his children that any job should have your best efforts. Fortune again smiled on Jack when he met Priscilla Hurlin who became his loving companion for nine years until his death. Jack is survived by all of his children: Joel MacDonald, Shane MacDonald, Louise Macdonald, Denise Macdonald, Thare Macdonald, Patrice Barklund, Lisa Ontiveros, Seth MacDonald, and Ian Macdonald. He is survived, as well, by fourteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Also, he is survived by three of his eight siblings, all of whom reside in Canada: Olga MacCormick, Adelaide Taylor and Sr. Eileen MacDonald. His other siblings were: Earl MacDonald, Paul MacDonald, Douglas MacDonald, Ronald MacDonald, Geraldine Gouthro, and Patricia Wells. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

So many memoriesSo many stories to be told. But that's for another day. Over 20 years, at Winchester Hospital, I had the privilege of working for and with Dr. Mac. A true professional, always a gentlemen, a good friend and an outstanding teacher. He set the standard high and we are all better for it. He will be missed.

"Jack" in later life but Dr. MacDonald as kids, we grew up with the MacDonald family in Winchester...hiking in the Whites, ski trips, time at each others houses, getting into all sorts of trouble on the Aberjona River...there are so many stories and pictures to go along. He and my Dad were best of friends and always stayed in touch and they climbed all the 4,000 footers in New England and paddled the Allagash. Jack's strong voice will always be etched in my memory and his help with my injured pet racoon. You will indeed be missed.
