Kenneth Knight Obituary

Kenneth Don Knight (aka Hound Dog) age 78 passed away on July 2, 2013 with his wife Beverly, daughter Brenda and daughter-in-law Lisa by his side, following a courageous battle with cancer and other health issues. Kenneth loved to be around his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was a fisherman, hunter, avid football, baseball and basketball fan, bowler, poker player, and loved to share stories of his military service and growing up. In his younger years he loved to dance with his wife Beverly every chance he had. He loved to camp and share his love for fishing with his children and grandchildren. He loved to show off his 1954 Chevy Step Side during Hot August Nights, winning the Slow Drag five consecutive years, as well as taking his grandchildren for drives around Lassen County. He loved to work in his garage. He made multiple furniture items which his wife, children, and grandchildren will cherish forever. He was born in Pine Valley, OK. In his youth he lived in Arkansas, his teenage years were spent in Northern California. He was a Willits High School graduate. He served in the United State Army during the Korean War. He was a Little League coach and Youth Football coach in Willits for 13 years, which he deeply loved and was personally vested in the young men he coached. He talked about each of the boys often and they were forever in his heart. He worked in lumber mills as a saw filer throughout the state of California. He lived in Willits for 10 years, Covelo for 2 years and in Susanville for 19 years. He moved to Susanville in 1978 where he worked for Sierra Pacific Industries for 19 years with many of his friends and co-workers who he respected immensely. Upon retirement, Don was never one to sit still. He worked at Northeastern Health Clinic in the maintenance department as well as a courier. He had many co-workers he respected and enjoyed. He is preceded in death by his parents John H. and Gradie E. Knight, son Warren Dale, brothers Trice E. and Charles R. Knight, his sister Bonnie Sue Mercer and her husband Roy Mercer, and daughter-in-law Violet E. Knight, and best childhood friend Feggie Chicott. He is survived by his wife of 44 years Beverly Knight. His children and grandchildren who were his life and kept him strong while fighting a long battle of cancer. Jeffery D. (Lisa) Knight and grandchildren Kyle and Kaitlynn of Reno, NV. Brenda Knight-Larson of Reno, NV grandchildren Sean (Heather) Larson and great grandson Beau of Reno, NV, Nicole Larson of Honolulu, HI, Denise (Jim) Larson-Thompson and great grandchildren Connor and Lorraine of Leavenworth, KS. Donna Elizabeth Knight of Laytonville, CA. Harold Jay Knight of Willits, CA and grandsons Alvin Jay (Whitney) and great granddaughter Annabel, Ryan, Matthew, Sheridan, Kegan, and Jeremiah Knight of Willits, CA. Michael Anthony Knight (Dawn) and granddaughter Stormie of Willits, CA. Don Keith Knight of Willits, CA and grandchildren Jennifer Knight-Neuroth (Hans) and great grandchildren Joshua, Joseph, Kylee, Khloe, and Eli of Laytonville, CA, Jason Knight (Alyssa) and great grandson Tyler of Laytonville, CA, and Jasmine Knight and great granddaughter Neveha Love. Kenneth David Knight of Willits, CA (Carolyn) and granddaughters Matia Knight of Ukiah, CA, Mandy Knight-Albright (HB) and great grandchildren Sylas and Mason Moore of Santa Rosa, CA. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews who he truly loved; the Knight's, Mercer's, Young's, Cannon's, Bogg's, William's, Munjar's, and Durupt's. He leaves behind his lifelong best friend, high school and Army buddy, and brother Bob Gibson and his wife Pat. Services will be held at Diamond Crest Cemetery in Susanville, CA on August 3rd, 2013 at 10:30 am with a celebration of life to follow at the family home in Janesville.
