Mr. James Linwood Maness, 82, passed away on Nov. 8, 2002. Jim was born in Bear Creek to Eli and Flora Maness. After marrying Clara Garrett, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in Italy. He worked for Home Security Life Insurance and then Colonial Life. He was a member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church, a member of Winston Lodge #167 A.F. & A.M. and VFW Post 5253. His wife preceded him in death in 1985. He is survived by two sons, Jim Maness and wife, Patty, of Asheboro and Bill Maness of Chapel Hill; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, at Pine Hills Cemetery in Burlington, with the Rev. Don Swinney and Mr. Bill Teague officiating. Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home is assisting the Maness family.
