Miss Josephine Morton Kelman, 83, of Winston-Salem went to be with her Lord on Sunday, April 17, 2005. Miss Kelman was born Aug. 13, 1921, to Leslie Morton Kelman and William Kelman of Dundee, Scotland. Miss Kelman was a loving daughter, granddaughter, sister, aunt and friend, and will be missed greatly by all who knew her. A longtime member of Salem Baptist Church, where her grandfather, Samuel Morton, and her mother were charter members, she was an active member of Westview Baptist Church in more recent years. Educated in the local public schools, Miss Kelman graduated from Reynolds High School and retired after 40 years of loyal service in the inspecting department of Hanes Hosiery. Aunt Josie could always be counted on for Juicy Fruit gum, the little Coca-Colas in the glass bottles, Hershey Kisses and her stock goodbye to all her nieces and nephews: "Do you need any money?" What was hers was yours. She was one of God's kindest disciples who never uttered a harsh word about anyone. Hers were surely the Hands of Christ on this earth, and we loved her dearly. Miss Kelman was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Frances Christina Kelman Shore; her brother, William Morton Kelman; and her brothers-in-law, Charlie F. Shore Sr., James A. Hodge Jr. and John S. Barton, Sr. She is survived by her sisters, Agnes Faye Kelman Hodge of Abbeville, S.C., and Martha Sue Kelman Barton of the home; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Clay Kelman of Winston-Salem; her nieces, Christina Shore Byrd and husband Earl of Boones Mill, Va., Anna Shore Holman and husband Frank of Salisbury, Anne Kelman Burris and husband Marty of Winston-Salem, Carol Kelman Mitchell and husband Joe of Goldsboro, Faye Hodge Ballard and husband Bob of Rock Hill, S.C., Kathryn Barton Cando and husband Roger of Wilmington, Marty Barton Lowe and husband Rick of Winston-Salem, and Cindy Barton Eddins and husband Eric of Pleasant Garden; nephews Charlie F. Shore and wife Kim of Winston-Salem, Pat (James A. III) Hodge and wife Dena of Abbeville, John S. Barton Jr. and wife Denise of Willow Springs, and Peter Kelman Barton and wife Helen of The Woodlands, Texas; great-nieces and great-nephews Stephen, Lori, Micah, Keri, Laura, Megan, Ryan, Aaron, Pam, Scott, Spencer, Laura, Jay, Millie, Cary, Josh, Amy, Leslie, James, John, Jean Elizabeth, Richard, Lee, Nick, Jaime, Matthew, Andy, Kate, Emily, Eric, Travis, Haley and Mary Claire; and great-great-niece and nephews Christina, Daniel, Joseph, Nathan, William, Davis, and Lane. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 23, at Westview Baptist Church with Dr. Carlton Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today, April 22, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Gifts in her memory may be made to Westview Baptist Church, 1700 Ebert Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. To God be the glory for the life of Aunt Josie! The family would like to extend its thanks to the friends of Westview Baptist Church and to Pat, Christina, Liza, Diana, Katherine, Holly and Dale of Forsyth Medical Center for their loving care of Miss Kelman during her illness.

I was saddened to learn of Josephine's death; however, I rejoice in knowing that she is with her Lord Jesus Christ and other loved ones who have gone on.
Josie was one of the dearest Christians I have ever known. For many years she worked in the children's department at Salem Baptist Church, where it was my privilege to get to know her.
What a heritage her family left at Salem. What wonderful sisters and other family members. My heart is filled with many wonderful memories.
I pray God's love, joy and peace for each of Josie's loved ones.
I regret that we were out of town most of this week and I did not learn this news until this afternoon.
In Calvary'love,
Marianne
