George Harvey Perry

1948 - 2023

George Harvey Perry of Newport News, Va., passed away July 28, 2023, following a short illness. He was born September 4, 1948, in Collinsdale, WV.

George was raised on Paint Creek, Kanawha County, WV. He attended Burnwell Elementary, Pratt Jr. High, and was a 1966 graduate of East Bank High School. Following graduation, he proudly served in the US Air Force. George retired from the Newport News Shipyard after 38 years of service.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Harvey and Hermalee McCarty Perry of Whittaker, WV.; his son Brian Perry, his great grandson Sawyer Dorsey, and two sisters, Nancy Perry and Wanda Sizemore.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Deloris Perry, daughters Tammy Dorsey (Todd), Trina Overstreet, and Charity DeBusk (Brian); his grandchildren, Zachary Dorsey (Mary), Ashton Johnson, Trinity Dorsey (Bailey), Sierra Hope (Dane), Amber Thompson (Steven), Amanda Wedding (David), Tyler Allen (Kendra), and Tristan Perry; 15 great-grandchildren; his sister Linda Perry Bowman of Clarksville, TN, brother Clifford Perry of Olongapo City, Philippines; "Adopted" grandchildren Jessica Benson and Heather Fogus; as well as his pet min-pins, Mila and Tucker.

He treasured his memories of times spent with his family, including his dear nieces and nephews, cousins and friends near and far.

A special thank you to Callie Tayrien and the staff at Riverside Regional Medical Center for the wonderful care given to George, whose kindness was greatly appreciated by his family.

In keeping with his wishes, George was cremated and there will be no services.
