To the family of Kathryn Barton:

My sympathy goes out to those loved ones she leaves behind. As a 1964 graduate of Manchester High, I had the pleasure of having Mrs. Barton for four years of English and three years of Art. Relative to English and communication, she instilled in me an appreciation and importance of writing well and precisely. To that end, as I teach business courses at The University of Akron, I forge ahead with the importance and value of good English and communication, much to the chagrin of many of my students. Only a few weeks ago did I talk about her to a few of my freshman classes, and relay to them where I received my communication focus. Now I read sadly she is gone. While in HS, out of a piece of maple, I made for her a dish in the shape of a leaf, hand-carved and stained. I bumped into her several years after HS and she commented on still having and using that dish. It is a wonderful thing to be an educator and so well thought of as she was to me. Her memory and her passion will live on with me as I continue to try to make a difference in the lives of others ( particularly business students). She was a good person and a talented human being who cared for others. Surely she will be missed by many. God bless her and those she leaves behind for she will be entering a better place. A poet once said "God gave us a memory so we may smell roses in Winter. May memories of her continue to give solice and smiles to others. I am a better person for having known her. Fred Marich
