Steven..to one of my favorite cousins and to probably the craziest! I'll never forget any of the times we had at Pop's swimming in the pool. I am so proud to call you my cousin and for serving our country for as long as you did. You truly are a hero, and my hero. It's crazy to think of all the times that we didn't ever get to see each other or hang out like we used to be able to, and I am saddened now that I won't be able to do that. I think about you so much. Every time I see a Harley I think of you. Please watch over me and take care of me until we meet again. I love you cuz, more than you could know and I miss you like crazy. I know God is taking care of you now and you are in a better place. Rest in peace Steven, I love you.

To my dear brother Steven,
I wish we could have spent more time together the last few years, it's my biggest regret and is just tearing me up. Dad says that people grow up and live different lives and sometimes grow apart, but I still can't help thinking that if I had been able to come down more often, I could have spent more time with you. And although I should be thankful for the time we did get to talk and see one another, it just breaks my heart to know I'll never, ever see you again. It was always so hard living so far away....The last time I talked to you, we were gonna go out when I came down so that we could catch up on things and now that day will never come. I was always so proud of you and all that you accomplished in your life. This was a terrible tragedy that should have never happened to such a good person. Everyone keeps telling me that it's God's will....I will accept that eventually, but it's hard to accept it with the pain that comes from your absence in our family's everyday life. I know that being at dad's will not feel right for a very long time - if ever, we are all changed people, never to be the same again...I'll always be expecting you to call or come over with a crazy story about the night before....I'll miss you so much little brother. I always loved you and thought about you even if you never realized it. I have cried more than I realized I was going to...usually after I see a nice bike, hear a song that makes me think of you, looking at your picture, thinking of the arguing over your nintendo when you were 6, talking to Jason about you... I hope that one day I am able to think of you and not have tears,...with alot of time and the help of God and our family, I'll do my best. Your nephew wants to be a Marine just like you...and if he can be as brave and strong as you were as a soldier, I'll be very proud of him. Steven, until we meet again in Heaven....I love you very much and will forever miss you and your rowdy ways.
Your sister,
Crystal

Wow I still can't believe this is True! My only thought is that God has greater plans for you in Heaven! Steven my buddy, the one that I ran through the woods with as kids. Always there when we had our family get togethers. I enjoyed that time the most because it let me get to know where I was from and who loved me! Steven you will always be the big cousin that made others leave me alone! The one that when I needed help getting onto the swing at the old farm house you helped me! Going down to the water shed to scare frogs or feed the rabbits. Always remember hide and seek when you would help me hide in the woods. The little things that you think of when you lose someone that made a difference in your life are endless. I will never forget any of it. You were and will always be a part of my life. Your always gonna be the cousin that showed me the ropes!

To Steve's family
I would like to send my deepest regrets for your loss. Steve was a friend of our children Joseph Carter and Malinda Carter Royce. Steve was also my friend too. I got out all the letters from him and read over each from Iraq, and of course cried. WE would talk of what kind of civilian job he could get I was so excited that he had decided not to go back. That he would be here around us and living a normal life. I know you are proud of your son and the time he served, but you can also be proud that he was a good human being only showing kindness to each he met. He was always so patient to my elderly parents, especially when my dad would want to talk about WWII. Steve and my son spent precious time together before he left for boot camp in February and I know It is going to break his heart when we have to tell him. Know your son was loved by our family and we are here if you would like to talk to us. My Bible Study Ladies were so sad When I had to tell them, Steve was on our prayer list while he was in Iraq, so he was precious to them too. I remembered how he loved his grandfather, who I had the pleasure of meeting. I think the last time I saw Steve was in December, but my husband got to see him a couple of weeks ago. So we hold onto the great memories and the Pride we have for his service he gave to our Country.

Thanks to you, Steven, along with all of the many men and women who have served our country. You are heroes to all of us. Soldiers like you are what gives us our freedom in this country.
As for Mark, Tammy and the surviving family, our hearts are with you. It is such a heart break to know Steven survived the war, and such a terrible tragedy took him in the prime of his life. As being Steven's neighbors, we had only known Steven for a short period of time, but he was a very mannerly and friendly young man. He will be missed by many.
We pray God will comfort you and give you the strength to carry on
with your daily lives during your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with each of you. If there's anything at all we may do for you at any time, please don't hesitate to give us a call. May God bless
you and be with you.
With our deepest condolences, thoughts and prayers,
Douglas, Connie, Shawn, and Stuart Farewell
