Boyd Stuhr Obituary

Boyd Stuhr, 89, of Bradshaw, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 12, 2024 at home surrounded by family. Boyd was born November 10, 1934, in York to Gustav and Estella (Bulgrin) Stuhr. He was baptized on December 16, 1934, and confirmed on March 31, 1948 at Zion Lutheran Church Hampton. Boyd graduated from York High School in 1952. He attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he was a charter member of Alpha Gamma Sigma Fraternity. He graduated from the College of Agriculture in 1956. Boyd proudly served his country as a Naval Aviator from 1956-1960 and served in the Naval Air Reserves for 11 years.

On January 20, 1956, he married Elaine Sackschewsky at Zion Lutheran Church Thayer. Their military tour of duty took them across the USA from Rhode Island to California, instilling in them a love of travel. Boyd and Elaine were blessed with three children: Cynthia, Teresa and Boyd Jr. They returned to the family farm near Bradshaw in 1960. In addition to farming, they also owned and operated Stuhrville Fertilizer Service from 1969 to 1975. Boyd retired from farming in 2000, but continued to oversee his beloved sweet corn patch and garden, which he enjoyed sharing with family and friends.

Family meant everything to Boyd. He loved attending his children and grandchildren's activities. During sporting events, he could often be heard assessing the referees' performances from the stands. He was an avid Husker fan and football season ticket holder for over 50 years.

Boyd had a passion for agriculture and education. He was an active leader in our community and state, serving on the Bradshaw School Board and the ESU-6 Board for a combined 40 years. Boyd served as President of the Nebraska Association of School Boards. He was also instrumental in the formation of the Nebraska Association of County Extension Boards and served as Chair of NACEB. As a member of the York County Corn Growers Board, he worked diligently to bring the ethanol industry to the area while also serving on the Nebraska Corn Growers Association Board. Boyd was active in local NRD, County ASCS committee (FSA) and the Feeders Association (Cattlemen). He was inducted into the York County Agriculture Hall of Fame in 2012 and the Nebraska Hall of Agriculture Achievement in 2022.

Boyd was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church Hampton. He served in many offices, sang in the choir and was a member of the Lutheran Laymen's League. His faith in God was a guiding principle throughout his lifetime.

Boyd was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gaylord Stuhr; in-laws, Alfred and Edna Sackschewsky; brothers-in-law, Wilmer Sackschewsky, Duane (Pat) Newton and Clifford Trump and great-granddaughter, Lydia Metcalf.

Those left to cherish Boyd's memory are his wife of 68 years Elaine; children, Cindy (Ron) Zluticky of Lincoln, Teresa (Charlie) Robbins of Faucett, Mo. and Boyd (Laurie) Stuhr of Bradshaw; six grandchildren, Cally (Jeff) O'Brien of Lincoln, Chaz (Chelsea) Robbins of Platte City, Mo., Dana (Brandon) Metcalf of East Alton, Ill., Christian (Sarah) Robbins of Faucett, Mo., Lauren (Matt) Brooks of Stilwell, Kan. and Austin Stuhr of Bradshaw; eight great-grandchildren, Jackson and William O'Brien; Olivia and Carter Robbins; Benjamin and Eliza Metcalf; Lucy Brooks and Elle Robbins.
