I am one of the many beneficiaries of the wonderful LL.M program that Prof. Sargentich founded at American University. The last time I saw him was at an LL.M dinner at an Italian restaurant. As always he was kind and gracious to all. Moreover, his academic life, the degrees he earned, and the outstanding articles and books he wrote remain an inspiration to any student of the law. Thank you Professor Sargentich.

I was saddened to learn of the passing of Prof. Sargentich. He was a teacher in the best sense of the word. He inspired many of his students over the years, and our fond memories of him will remain a fitting testiment to his scholarship and kindness. My sincere condolences to his family.

Dearest Susan,
What awful news I have received. It is always difficult to know what to say, but as I have found, any expression of sympathy is of help.
The first thing that comes to mind is how frightfully premature and unfair it is for Tom's life to be so short. You were the first one of us who had a serious relationship. You were so well suited for one another. Your life was full.
Even though we no longer just live a few miles apart, and I can no longer zip up 98 to see you, I feel like you are still that teen girlfriend. I must be able to pick up the phone after school and console you. My love for you is that immediate even if the years have separated us. My prayers are with you and Catherine.
Come visit us at the beach! It is quite close to you...just zip down 95! Love you. Martha

Tom was not only in my class at Harvard Law but was instrumental in my getting a job at the Office of Legal Counsel. His sweetness and intelligence were always present. I am shocked that he has died so young.

I'm so sorry and I'll miss him. He was just such a smart, capable, generous, gentle and kind teacher and person, it's just a damn shame we couldn't have him around longer.

Professor Sargentich:
I am saddened to hear that you left us. I will always remember your kindness and support during my years at the WCL. You have always been there for me and so many students. I missed a lot my discussions with you and regret not to be able to realize my promise to take you to my country, Guinea. I will never thank you enough for your advice and support. I will always keep you in my mind. Rest peacefully, you deserve it.

I am very saddened to learn of Professor Sargentich's death and want to express my deepest sympathies to his family.
I was a student in Professor Sargentich's Constitutional law class and a seminar course in 1992. I remember him as one ofthe most deeply knowledgeable professors I was privileged to have at WCL; his love of his subject matter was constantly evident, as was his kindness and caring for his students. I have never forgotten, and often thought back on, his closing speech in Consitutional law, borrowed from Mark Twain's "Life on the Mississippi" about not allowing mastery of a subject (the river, or the law), to make one lose sight of its majesty.
Peace to his memory, and know that his teaching continues to inspire those of us who knew and learned from him.

It came as a shock to hear that Tom passed away. In the short time that I knew him he always displayed patience and kindness. I am sorry to the students that will not know this about him and to his family that always knew this about Tom. My deepest regrets.

Tom was a mensch, a good and decent man. His love of the law was inspirational; his caring for his students, past and present, was nurturing; his suffering was left unsaid. He was my admin professor in 1990 and he encouraged me to return to WCL to become the first graduate of his Law and Government Program. Career assistance, political strategy, and friendship ensued. I miss him.

I was very saddened to hear of the passing of Tom. I was a student and a colleague in the Law & Government LLM program in which he played such a valuable role. I will remember him, in addition to his outstanding abilities as an educator, as a very kind and caring person who was always approachable and quick to share a laugh. In addition he will be remembered for his dedication to the law, the university and those students who were lucky enough to have the chance to know him.
