The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Dear Clifton family,
I am sorry to learn of Karen's death, and I wish to express my gratitude to you for her efforts in the Army. She began serving America and sacrificing for each one of us long before she was called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice. She is worthy of our honor and continued appreciation. I met Karen through my sis who used to be a security officer for the US Installations here in Stuttgart..
I met her, learned to respect her and to us, she was more a friend than a person we know..
I will miss her, that's for sure..

I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. May all the soldiers out there be safe and return home to their beloved ones.

I'm honored and proud to have known Karen. She was a student in several college classes I tought in Stuttgart, Germany. She was a hard worker and dedicated to everything she did. Her goal was to complete a degree in Criminal Justice. Despite working long hours as a Military Policeman, she always came to class full of energy and eager to learn. As a retired soldier myself, she was a fellow soldier and comrade, who I will always remember. Karen, you will truely be missed. God's speed to you and you will always be remembered by those who love you.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

I never in a million years thought that i would be leaving a message like this for a great soldier and a awesome friend. But i wanted to send my thoughts and prays to the clifton family and let them know that their daughter, neice, cousin, or what ever comes along those lines was one of the greatest people that i have ever meet and had the chance to work with. I'm going to miss her smiles and the crazy things she would say or do but of most of all she will truly be missed as a fantastic person and one of our own. Clifton your in gods hands now and we miss you more and more with everyday that passes by. Before i go here's the poem that i wrote and read at your memorial service. Love you girl. Now its your time to rest.

I thought it would be easy to tell you good-bye,
To watch you walk away and not even cry,
On the bus you went to return a year later,
But on that tragic day it came with a letter,
We never thoguht it would be possible to lose one of our own,
You were suppose to come back and to return back home,
For those of us who knew you we will never forget,
The light in your eyes and the smile on your face,
You were always there when we had a bad day,
You cheered us up and made things ok,
We'll always remember the nights we went out,
They will be hard to replace with out a doubt,
But never the less you gave us your all,
You made the ultimate sacrifice which cost your life,
But for ever more we'll hold you dear to our hearts,
Thank god that we met you and were never that far apart.

We Can Only Imagine

We can only imagine in our minds
Of how much you've fought and seen
You risk you life for all of us
To let our Freedom ring

We can only imagine how you must of felt
Looking upon death everyday
Not knowing where the enemy lies
But you continued to fight
With your brave and courageous ways

We can only imagine the fear you've faced
With the enemy close at hand
You stood your ground and faced them all
You stood proud and stood tall

You fullfilled your dream and made us proud
For the soldier you had become
To fight for our country to give your life
The battle you had won

Your truly a Hero to all of us
To all who have given there life
To fight for there country and for what they believe
We can only imagine in our minds

You will never be forgotten
In our hearts you will remain
In our eyes you are our Heroes
And that will never change

God Bless all our troops and bring them home safely, and to all who have lost loved ones may God give you strength to get through each day. May your hearts heal from the pain and the love in your heart comfort you and may the memories give you peace within. I continue to pray for all who are fighting for our country and there families.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of this American Hero.

June 29, 2007

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To her family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss her, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by her presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

Doug,
Always remember, I'm just upstairs in the art room during the day, and a phone call away during the night when and if you ever want to talk to someone. "ANYTIME!"

Karen and I used to hang out and run around in her Blue Mustang. We had two common bonds, hot cars, and the Army. I was in the National Guard, Karen and I spoke quite often about the military. Karen is an amazing person, with superhuman talent, and compassion. I will remember her forever and always, just as anyone that ever met her will. She had a sharp whit, and a sense of sarcasm that would let you know where you stood with her. My entire family was struck by the news, and cannot begin to imagine the sense of loss the family is going through. On behalf, of my family, my fiance, and myself. We send our deepest sympathies, most heart-felt prayers, and uncompromising regard to Karen's Family, Friends, and fellow soldiers.

To the family of Karen, my grief for the loss of your daughter is felt. I'm sorry and ask forgiveness for the first signing before Karen was known to anyone but family and her unit, I assumed that is was a son lost. I know what it's like to loose your child in war as my son was killed in action too. It feels that your heart has been ripped from you and you don't understand why this happened to your child. I've felt all you will feel in the coming days and weeks and though I’m not close in relation to area, but I am very close by email. I offer any support to you and your family that I can. It's with the Grace of God that I've gotten through each day and with His healing love and comfort that I've been able to once again sleep at night and not cry each day. Believe me I do know how hard it is. May God continue to heal you and your family and contact me when and if you are ever ready, even if it's to vent or cry. In memory of my son SPC Harry (Buck) Winkler III KIA 11/12/06 Samarra, Iraq with the 2-505th PIR 82nd Airborne Div

She is definitely someone you will always be proud of and have many fond memories of that will never go away. That means she will always be with you. SHE IS TRULY A HERO!!!

A soldier we did not know died for us. So we must forever ask ourselves from here on, are we living our lives so that we were worth dying for? We will try to Karen, and we will not forget you. Thank you for being there for us. We will be there with our group in the coming days to pay respects and stand for you and your family. God bless Karen Clifton and her family.
