Johnny Cash was larger than life. I wish I could have met him, his wife and family. June Carter Cash was a beautiful, talented woman. And she loved her husband and wasn't afraid to show it. Johnny Cash loved his wife deeply. I believe that is why He passed away so close to her passing.

In around 1958, I saw Johnny Cash and his Tennessee Two, up close and in person at The Terrace Ballroom in New Jersey. Back then, no admittance fee, and you sat at a table and listened to the country greats like Johnny Cash, and Hank Snow, Jim Reeves and other country greats.
I was just a high school kid with very little money, and I even got their autographs.
Those were the good old days when a country music radio DJ, Don Larkin, had radio programs called The Hometown Frolics Show, and arranged for the top country and western artists to come.
What great memories of those country music greats like Johnny Cash!

I was a big Johnny cash fan and saw him in person twice, once during Fan Fair and once in Wheeling West Virginia. What a great show he put on. Of course the Carter family was with him in Wheeling West Virginia. I do miss him, my favorite song he had out was Goodbye Little Darling. I have that song too. He will be missed by all of his friends including me.

Johnny will never be replaced. He was one of a kind. He gave all to everyone. My father met him while he was in the air force during nam. Johnny and June had come to do a show for the troops. Daddy said him and June was just normal people had no airs about them. After June left us Johnny wasnt to far behind. No way he could be here without his love. I know John and June are together and happy. Even though our lifes are darker without him with us, we can be sure he is a shining star looking down.

For Johnny...
WEEP NOT FOR ME
Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.
Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.
I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.
Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.
Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.
Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

Johnny Cash, one of the best... Forever missed... Love your music...
Rick Atwell
August 15, 2008
Ever since I was old enough to know what music was all I can remember was Johnny Cash. I cut my first teeth on the corner of my uncles old mono record player, watching the record go round and round listening to the "Sun" recordings of "Luthers Boogie,Train of Love, Down the Street to 301 ect. and the all famous Folsom Prison Blues and I Walk The Line". I never missed a Johnny cash song. In my early teen age years, I would sit for hours and listen to the 8 track tapes of Johnny cash at San Quentin and live at Folsom Prison. During this time, I was taking some guitar lessons, not knowing any chords, I would sit and strum Johnny Cash and sing every line just like he did. I would imitate him in every way, oil and comb my hair back, wear black clothing, curl my lip when I would sing, strum up on the neck of my guitar and sling my guitar over on my back, just like I saw him do every week on "The Johnny Cash Show", which I never missed an episode. When the rest of my generation were listening to Rock and Roll, I was all Johnny Cash. Now that I know a few chords on the guitar, I still and will continue to sing his songs.Through out the rest of his life I never heard a Johnny Cash song that I did'nt like. A true american he was, always paying tribute to the working man, such as "I pray when I'm dead and the ages shall roll that my body would blacken and turn into coal." I will always believe that grief and the longing to be with his"Darling Companion" June once again led to his departure from this life and being reunited with her again was his blessing. John, I will visit your grave, I will bring my guitar and I will sing a song for you. God bless you for all that you gave to me and to all who heard your music. As another writer once said, "I'll remember You when I've forgotten all the rest". I look forward to shaking your hand in paradise, because as well as you did, I also believe in the "Fourth Man in the Fire". I cried the day that Johnny Cash died, something left me deep inside for the man I never met but greatly adored, sadly will share this life no more. I will always say and if any one should ask, if I could sing like I wanted to, I would sound like Johnny Cash. Sincerely with much sadness and regrets, Rick Atwell

In Memory of Johnny Cash:
A part of my childhood was lost forever when you died. Back in the early 60s in Tyler, TX there was not many radio stations that played diverse music but I am fortunate that it played yours. I can hear "The Ring of Fire" over and over again in my mind. You are one of my favorite all-time singers. I wanted to see you perform but never got to.
"Man in Black", you are sorely missed. Congratulations on the success of the movie, "Walk The Line. May you and June rest in peace.
