Dearest Tillie
I can't believe its been two years today since you died. I still feel like it was yesterday that I heard the devastating news.
Love you,
Tom Patania
February 3, 2007
My introduction to Tillie was during her years in the Junior League of
Jacksonville, as I applied for funding of Youth Crisis Center. Over the years, we continued to work together on projects, culminating with Tillie becoming my lobbyist while employed with Holland & Knight. In fact, the day she went home to be with the Lord, we were scheduled to meet in D.C. Walking the halls with Tillie was an awesome
experience, as congressmen went out of their way to speak with her. She
rightfully commanded respect from the congressional leaders, and I
learned that the congresswomen's lounge and conference area was
Tillie's initiative. She was respected and loved by all who knew her. We will continue to miss her.

To the Fowlers and to Kathy
Tillie was president of the Theta chapter at Emory when I pledged, so I knew her personally only a few months. I never forgot her. She set such a wonderful example in every positive way, even at such a young age. I learned of her entry into congress from a mutual friend from The World Affairs Council and was so very proud of Tillie. The next news I heard was that she was gone and I was and am so saddened.
Please accept my sincere sorrow for your loss. Sandra Burke McKee

When my son, Corey, was a sophomore on the student council at Mandarin High, in 1998,Mrs. Fowler came to address the council. She spent time talking to students afterwards in the media center. My son was fortunate to be able to speak with her about current issues and to pose for a picture with her.It made quite an impression on him.We both appreciate the time she spent with him that day and treasure the photo.Today,Corey is a senior in college studying to be a history teacher.Mrs. Fowler's influence will be felt for many generations to come. Our heartfelt condolences to you in your loss.

She gave so much of herself to this nation and North Florida. Always finding ways to make life better for our Sailors and to keep our nation strong and ready. I treasure the memories of our time together and will miss her greatly. We are blessed for having known her.

Mr. Fowler, Tillie Ann,& Elizabth,
My heart still aches for you in this unexpected time of grief, pain and extreme loss!
I knew Tillie first as a mother to you two girls while I was teaching at Episcopal High School and each of you were in my class! Then I had the good fortune to work with her while she was a City Council Member, and I was in the Planning Department working closely with the City Council. It was during this time that I joined the Junior League, where I was able to see yet another side of her - the volunteer!
During my 15 years in the Junior League, whenever I called or emailed, she made me feel as though, I was her priority! The year that I was honored to serve as President of the Junior League, she was supportive, complimentary, and always a wonderful friend for me and always for the League! The honor I felt the night she attended the Annual Meeting as I was leaving the Presidency, is something I will never forget - she came in from Washington DC at my request, to be my personal guest.
I will miss my friend immensely just as I know you will miss you wife and mother!
My love and prayers to each of you!
Fondly, Susan

To The Fowler Family:
Thank you so much for sharing Tillie with the citizens of Jacksonville. Tillie will always remain in our hearts for the relentless determination that she represented to the govt. here and the entire military community. I know that she will be carrying the trumpets in heaven and continuing to bear down on the hearts and minds of all those she left behind. She is truly a born leader, and a commrade to those serving in our beloved armed forces. Thank you again, and may God continue to carry comfort and serenity to you and yours. Lovingly, M.Walker

Tillie has always had a special place in my heart. From the first time she was running for city council and she stopped by our Ortega home and talked with us personally (and got our vote, too) to the day she was waving to the cars going by at the Roosevelt Blvd./San Juan intersection. She was trying to step up on a folding chair and lost her balance, and unceremoniously fell down. She stood back up, straightened her clothes and successfully got back up on that chair, undaunted and unfazed by it all. She won my heart that day. Such a great lady will be sorely missed. May God keep you and fill your hearts with only the best and sweetest of memories of wife and mother. She was the greatest.

Mrs. Fowler was one of the kindest, sincere people I have ever known and I am proud to call her friend. She will be missed. She helped me at a time of need without reservations. I was just one person with a cause and she embraced it as her own. She made it happen for me. She was much too young to pass and she had a lot more living to do. God just called her home. Buck, Tillie and Liz,
Your wife--and mother--was our "she-ro" and will be sorely missed by our family. We personally feel honored to have known Tillie while living in Ortega, and we continued to follow her leadership when we moved to Atlanta. Tillie was a special role model to our daughter, Ashley, who is now in law school and looking at government service. To us, Tillie's life exemplified true stewardship, and we are better people for knowing her. May her loving and most gracious spirit stay alive in your hearts and minds.

Congresswoman Fowler was not only an exemplary public servant, but also a role model and mentor for women running for elective office at any level -- and also a true friend of other women in Congress regardless of political party. Her stellar leadership in investigating abuses against women in the armed services touched the lives of so many more women. She will be sorely missed!

To a friend and former neighbor:
In God's grace, Tillie was given the rare combination of superior intellect, motivation, intuition, integrity, and most importantly of all, empathy for her fellow human beings.
As many have said, she was blessed to be able to transmit this kindness and empathy talking to a world leader or a homeless person.
May God bless those on earth who miss her so very much while we also thank God for making Tillie a person who truly left our world a better place for being here.

"If you can walk with Kings...nor lose the common touch" from Rudyard Kipling's poem "If"... this was the essence of Tillie Fowler. It's so painful to hear that we won't meet her at crowds, see her representing us, or watch her stand up for Jacksonville. God has chosen Tillie, and, for all of us who have known her, "Well done!" But,
we'll miss her. And seeing that wonderful picture of her smiling at us with just the rightful knowledge...we will stop there with today's memories, and start telling the greatness of life well done.
May God bless her and her beloved family.

Tillie was a political mentor for me. During her first congressional run, she met with me to convince my one vote to support her campaign. I was a fan from then on. After that, her stance for the Military as a whole, much less Jacksonville's stations was a testiment to her committment to our armed services. I learned a lot from Tillie and can truly say we were both good friends. She will be missed but her memory will last for many years.

Tillie Fowler served her constituents in the same spirit and with the same dedication to good government as did Charlie Bennett. Tillie Fowler rose well above the common expectations of a common politician or attorney. Tillie was honest, forthright, and fair. She will be remembered as an uncommon human being who paved a new path for women.
Tillie was also an unselfish giver who was born in the center of the south. It is unlikely that we will see another Tillie Fowler in our generation.
Just for one moment, imagine a government in the hands of people like her. The American people would be safe and respected. Yet, she managed to befriend the common people in her field without becoming soiled.
Tillie Fowler was, indeed, an uncommon person, and a gift and blessing to us all.
