David Little Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 22, 2005.
PITTSBURGH (AP) -- David Little, a durable linebacker for the Pittsburgh Steelers who was voted to the Pro Bowl in 1990, died while weightlifting at home in Miami. He was 46.

Little had heart disease, and a cardiac fluttering Thursday caused him to drop on his chest 250 pounds of weights, which rolled onto his neck and suffocated him, the coroner said Tuesday. Little was found by his sons, David Jr. and Darien.

Little played his entire 12-year career in Pittsburgh after he was drafted out of Florida in the seventh round in 1981. He started 125 of the 179 games he played for the Steelers and once played in 89 in a row. His last season in the league was 1992.

His older brother, Larry Little, was an All-Pro guard for the Miami Dolphins.

Little is also survived by his wife, Denise, his mother, daughter and four sisters.

To Denise,
David and I attended Miami Jackson together. I grew to know him while playing football and basketball. I remember attending Grad Night with David. He kept us laughing throughout the whole trip with his sense of humor, telling jokes. I know you from how you lived your life back in high school that it carried you to Heaven to be with the LORD JESUS. WEEPING MAY ENDURETH THROUGH THE NIGHT BUT JOY COMETH IN THE MORNING. STAY STRONG IN THE LORD THRU THE POWER OF HIS MIGHT!

I played with David while he was at Miami Jackson. His light shined bright then and no one was more proud to see him shine than me. Most people would claim they knew this famous person or that one. Davis was my famous person and he was my motivation on the football field and off. His personality and contagious smile will not be forgotten. My condoleses to his family. He was a true friend. May he rest in peace.

Your family and my family share the loss of a loved one in a weightlifting accident. My 12 year old son was in a weightlifting accident that took his life here on earth. He too shared a love of football like Mr. David Little. May they both lift weights and play ball together in Heaven. God bless your family.

I met David when he visited New Jersey as a Steeler. I collect autographs and was at the hotel to get some signature from the players. David was very nice a so very funny. We were not sure who he was and my buddy approached him with an index card for him to sign so we could ID him. When we found out who he was we ALL asked him to sign som cards. David said with a smile,"I am really going to get that guy with that index card!" To this day us collectors still laugh at that.

Forever in our hearts my friend!

Peace,

Denise,

My dear friend. I am praying your strength in the Lord, that through this valley experience you will find comfort in his bosom. I cant remember anything about your relationship with David that stood out more than the laughter shared between you two of a real good joke! Remember weeping may endure for a night but allow JOY to come in the morning.(The Joy of The Lord Is Your Strength!) May the Lord keep you and counsel you through this season of your walk, and every season that might follow! I love you Denise, and I pray God's blessing over you and your kids.

I know that you might not remember me. But David and I grow up together. We had the same babysitter. We called her Aunt clara. I just heard from my best friend in Miami about Daivd, and I am still in shock to here. I remember David as a very warm and gentle person. I remember him and I going to see the Exocist together, and we ran all the way home. I know that this is a very hard time for his family. May the lord keep you strong and bless you.

"He Himself has said,

I will not in any way fail you

nor give you up

nor leave you without support."

Hebrews 13:5

May your troubled heart

find peace and comfort in the knowledge

that you are never alone.

May God's presence ease

your trembling spirit and give you rest.

He knows how you feel.

He is ever aware of your circumstances

and ready to be your strength,

your grace, and your peace.

He is there to cast sunlight

into all of your darkened shadows,

to send encouragement through the love

of friends and family, and

to replace your weariness with new hope.

God is your stronghold,

and with Him as your guide,

you need never be afraid.

No circumstances can block His love.

No grief is too hard for Him to bear.

No task is too difficult

for Him to complete.

When what you are feeling

is simply too deep for words

and nothing anyone does or says

can provide you with the relief you need,

God understands.

He is your provider --

today, tomorrow, and always.

And He loves you.

Cast all of your cares on Him...

and believe.

My wife and I were devastated when we heard of the loss of your father. I know that no words right now can ease the pain you feel. Take comfort in knowing that your father was a good man, and his life will not be forgotten. God promises us, "Do not marvel at this the hour is coming when all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out. Those who did good things to a resurrection of life..."(John 5:28,29) Please accept our deepest condolences, we will keep you all in our thoughts and prayers

Death is one of lifes hardest things to cope with, but we have to remember that we are born to live and that we live to one day die. We must learn that a home going is not only to say good bye but to rejoice because we are left here in all of the violence and crime, only to live to see if we can make it threw another day.Little family David's shell of a man may be gone but he lives in all of you. If it is threw a smile, a soft touch on the shoulder, a hug or a kind word. May god bless and keep you

When you are part of a family as the Steeler players and fans are, it always hurts to see someone go.

I loved to watch you play, but more than that you are, and always will be respected as a human being.

God bless your wife and kids, but most of all your soul.

Jesus is with you and David is with Jesus. May you truly experience the peace that surpasses even YOUR understanding. I pray that his children are strengthen day by day...for surely they will see him again. He was so young, had so much more in life to accomplish. Yes, it seems so unfair, but trust that God is preparing the path of your life, Mrs. Little, for the blessing of others.
