I remembered him as Hong, as we attended school together and his story is being shared with the reunion committee. His heroic actions will be shared with his classmates. God bless his wife, child, family and friends. It was an honor to know him.

I cannot go to Target or PetsMart on 119th without thinking of Jon U. It’s been 15 years now. I think of his daughter who is 15 now and what she must wonder about who her hero of a dad, and who he was. What was he like? He was the amazing man that knew what was right and fought against what was wrong. Jon U was a hero and know that he loved his wife and daughter.

Jon, I only know about you by what I read in the paper many years ago and yet this week found myself thinking about you and your family. I am humbled by your selfless sacrifice to help another, a sacrifice that goes beyond anything many of us will ever do for another in our lifetime. We may never know the reason for God's plan going this way but truly the person you helped and all of us have more hope in mankind because of you. Thank you.

Jon: I'm sorry I never got to meet you the times you and Stephanie were next door working on the house before move in day. I will see you in Heaven though. The Lord called you up I believe so that people would get to hear about you. What a loss here on earth, but an eternal gain.
I've seen your baby girl Lauren born this week. She looks just like you. I'll always think of you when I look at her. Stephanie and Casey dog are doing ok. Stephanie and Lauren have so much community love and support. So many people want to help your family and they are with prayers and giving.
As her next door neighbors, we already love her like a sister and will be there for anything she and Lauren need.
God Bless you for your selfless act of humanity and courage. It was not in vain.

Jon - You'll always be Hong to me. Not only have I lost the most amazing friend a man could have, I feel like I've lost a brother. Through the years we've had so many good times and shared so many memories. When Casey and I were engaged, you were naturally to be my best man. It truly meant a lot that you would be there by my side on such a special day. I only hope that one day when we have children of our own, they get to experience a special friendship like we had. I love and miss you, Bro!

First off, words cannot express the sympathy in which I felt when first hearing about Jonathan U. Jon seems to have been such a strong and couragous man and my heart goes out to him and his family. I did not personally know Jon nor his family, but from what I have heard and what I have read just in this guest book is that he is truly a hero and has touched so many. I am a student at Johnson County Community College and a big Target shopper, and to have heard this story just brought tears to my eyes. Jon will always be remembered as a brave individual who reacted out of the kindness of his heart and for that he is a true HERO, and even know we have never met, he and his family will always have a place in my heart and in my prayers. God Bless and may Jon's memories and spirit live on.

How wonderful it is that we still have brave people who would lay down their lives to come to assistance of others.
And what a tragedy that these heroes have to leave us so soon at a time when we need them like we never needed them before!
May G*d's peace be upon you eternally, Mr. U. You deserve a hero's welcome and reward in the eternal life!
You will be remembered for the good things you did when you were here.
We will pray for you!

To the family of Jon U,
This man is what a "True Hero" really is, and what we as American's should be looking up to as a role model for our young. Not actors and sports figures, but someone who unselfishly thought of another persons well being before his own, and unfortunately paid the ultimate price.
Rest in peace, and thank you from a grateful and hopeful American citizen.

I am very sorry for your great loss.
I hope you find strength in knowing
that you had one of the hero's of this world being a part of your world.
I find great hope in the world knowing there are still people who would go out and help others.
In our day to day world we do not see this much anymore. I am sorry it takes such a story to know we still have the best walking among us.
God Bless Jon and his family.
Take care.

I was floored when I heard that a man in Olathe had attempted to halt a purse snatcher for a total stranger. I was even more shocked to hear of how it all came to an end. But, to Mr. U, he's a hero in my book and I will NEVER forget his bravery and I'm so happy to hear that there is someone out there willing to help someone they had never met. God bless Mr. U and his family (including his new baby girl, of course). Hopefully someday his new girl will understand how great of a human being he was.

I used to work with Jon at JCCC. Whenever I was working late he would stop by and keep me company. We would share screen play ideas and check out what the big wigs were doing. He loved that short video of the 747 landing on the highway. I think he barrowed and read every software manual that I had available to me. I used to think to myself, “man this guy is a huge sponge thirsty for knowledge”. I regret that I didn’t keep in touch with Jon that much after I changed jobs but I still think of him as one of the nicest guys I know. Always smiling! My heart goes out to his family. His daughter truly has a super hero for a dad.

As I'm sure anyone who's reading this can tell, Jon was a great guy, and those of us that knew him aren't surprised that he reached out to help Mrs. Peck. We are all just saddened that to do the right thing cost so much.
I was fortunate enough to work with him, and he was one of the people I could count on to make me smile on even the worst of days. His optimism was amazing, as was his love of life.
Jon- We are all better people to have known you. You will live in all of our hearts forever, and will be a model to us of how the world SHOULD be.
Stephanie and baby - You have our unending friendship and support.

I knew Jon through my younger brother Fred, who went to highschool with Jon, and they remained close friends through out the years, up to the time the tragedy occured.
I had the privilege in meeting Jon in person on numerous occasions. He ALWAYS had a smile on his face, and was a very lay back, carefree person. I will NEVER forget a while back when my brother made a comment to me regarding Jon, that he's a very mellow, yet a very righteous person, and will ALWAYS be there for his friends and anyone else that is in need... Knowing what I know about him I know he have no regret -->that he died for something he believe in.
My brother and I will always remember you Jon. We hope when your daughter grows up she will know what a great man her father was and how much he was loved by all that who knew him.
To Stephanie, I feel sincerely sorry for your great loss, one can never imagine the sadness one would feel when someone they love so dearly is gone... but know this, Jon lived by the principles he believed in, and died a hero.
May you rest in peace Jon, my brother and I will miss you deeply, for the world is a bit more empty without your presence....
