To "Da Crusher" It's a shame that you are gone. Just read the article. You were wrestling. I "Thank You" for all of the great memories I have as a child seeing you on tv. Wrestling today is nothing compared to when you wrestled. You are missed but will never ever be forgotten. Thanks Again.

Crusher you were & always will be my all time favorite wrestler. I remember watching you on "All Star Wresting" on Saturday nights when I was a kid. You were the high light of the show for me. None of these wrestlers now adays will ever be able to fill your shoes. You are missed, but never forgotten.

I heard Vern Gagne's name mentioned on the radio the other day and started thinking about nights as a kid watching All Star Wrestling with my Grandpa. The Crusher was our favorite and I loved it when he'd say, "I got a thousand stiches in my head" while chewing on a cigar. I decided to look up The Crusher on the Internet and see if I could find any photos. To my surprise, I found this site and found out that he had recently passed away. It made me sad to think that, like my Grandpa, most of those guys are gone now, but what great memories we'll have. Thanks Reggie.

Some of my earliest and most cherished memories are of watching the Crusher in the old Bob Luce promotion on channel 44 in Chicago....my thoughts and prayers go out to the Lisowski family...it is comforting to know that the Crusher and the Bruiser are teaming up again!

April 1, 2008

Like everyone else, Crusher was the main reason for watching All Star Wrestling, everything else was second. I attended numerous matches in Milwaukee, always picking the cards that Reggie was on. When I was in 8th grade, the AWA came to Carthage in Kenosha and I attended with some friends. After the card, people flocked to the back of the fieldhous trying to get autographs from the wrestlers. When the Crusher came out to his orange cadillac, he was quite protected by security and no one could get close. I yelled out to him that my uncle was Fred Muth (then the GM of the Arena/Auditorium), knowing that Reggie knew him personally. Reggie told security to let me through and he shook my hand and gave me his autograph. My friends were amazed and couldnot believe what they just saw. You gave me a gift that I will never forget that day, it didn't make me anymore of a fan of the Crusher, but it sure did of Reggie Lisowski! To his family and close friends, Reggie was truely one of a kind and will always hold a special place in my memories. Thanks!

I'm greg, an avid "Crusher". i grew up from 1967 watching and fastinated by him and "dick the bruiser" beat up on all of their oppenents. i gathered newspapers from my neighborhoood to sell so i could go to the auditorium. i got enough money to buy a ticket, program, a soda and hotdog/ i still got those pragrams in a very special spot.I was very honoered when the crusher and bruist signed a picture of them with their title belts.i was never so honered to go to the funeral for him. i dug out those programs; brought them and shared them with family and other fans. He was an example of a good man; winning over evil and giving it "HIS" all. He will always be an idol to me. My dad was a fan of his to. God bless "the crusher" greg from milwaukee.

The Crusher and The Bruiser. They go way back for me, when I used to watch All Star Wrestling in Minneapolis.
I can even vaguely remember The Crush
fueding with Verne Gagne.
Crusher, you were the best, you had the best lines, you were the toughest.
Hoist a barrel, and have a beer on me!

a mystery guest was being interviewed on the weekend showing of all star wrestling... there in a chair sat a man covered in a bed sheet, and he was not the ku klux klan... there was a hole in the sheet around the head... just large enough for the protruding and cloud puffing cigar to pop through while the mystery guest under the sheet answered questions... ok you turkey necks, gather round... come and get me so's to make it easier for me so's i don't gotta go get you and waste time... i don't wanna miss my beer and my cigars, and it's hard to hold a keg of beer, a box of cigars, and drink and smoke and wrestle at the same time, so if you come after me you're saving me more time for beer, cigars, and i won't hurt you so much except you might bring a pillow for when i accidently on purpose put you to sleep in the ring...

i remember the fabulous dude from mostly the 60's se iowa tv... ... his pinup was in a sports magazine... my sister, a teenager, borrowed it, took it to school... where it disappeared...

In the late 70s the Crusher and Jerry "the crusher" Blackwell were going to settle the fued of who was the real crusher. It was a lights out match, the lights went out and any fan who didn't want to see blood could leave. I will remember how the crusher took care of business at the get go and all of the fans went absolutly crazy. I will miss his charm and candor and his love for the fans. He will always be a hero to me. God bless you and your family.

Crusher, who could forget that classic match in the early 60's in Davenport, Iowa (and probably five other locations that week) that pitted the improbable tag team of you and All American Boy Verne Gagne against the Dolly Sisters (Handsome Harley Race and Pretty Boy Larry Henning). You trained Verne for the match by running with a beer keg on each shoulder. You ran until one was empty, then you knew it was time to turn around and go back. When Verne was disqualified for beating one of the opponent's head on the dugout steps, you explained it by stating, "I guess I over trained him.' Perfect, as were you.

I began my journalistic career at a Pittsburgh, Pa. television that broadcast live professional wrestling every Saturday evening. It was there that I was honored to have met and had several conversations with the "Crusher." I actually admired his athletic ability and his showmanship. Besides, he lived "Iron City Beer," the brew-love of all Pittsburghers.
Rest in peace, Champ.

I'm late with this—just found the website. Crusher was a hero of mine growing up in Pittsburgh, where he frequently appeared on "Studio Wrestling," a TV wrestling show in the 50's. Don't know why I loved him so much, but here I am 50 years later choked up looking at his photo. Love is not easy to understand . . . FW.

I just learned about Reggie's passing this afternoon, and I am so sorry. I enjoyed the article about his grandson, Jake, making state in wrestling back in 2004, and seeing Reggie clowning with him brought back memories of a real "Superman" of the ring. As a teen in the 60's, I couldn't believe the look of "The Crusher" - he looked absolutely dangerous! Years later I realized that he was a real gentleman and loving husband and family man, and I am glad that he has such a lovely family to remember him. I've heard about the "straps" he held, but being happily married to the same lady for over 50 years makes him "The REAL Champ", family-wise, in my book! What a great guy! To the Lisowski family, all of you, my best wishes and condolences on the loss of your father and grandfather - he was really a jewel of a man! GOD BLESS!!

I just learned of Mr. Lisowski's passing. I remember as a teenager seeing the Bruiser and the Crusher rip apart assorted tough teams. They epitomized blue-collar midwest rugged indiviidual values hyperbolized to superhero heights.

The articles of how they would go out on the town enhanced their legend, just great showmen who loved what they did and gave the fans their money's worth consistently.

To the Lisowski family. I was deeply saddened to hear of The Crusher's passing. I watched him as a teenager at North Side gym in Elkhart, Indiana. After a match, a father asked him if he would come and say hello to his little boy. He shook the boys hand and said, "Hi champ." The boys eyes lit up. I saw him for the last time in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. He was great. I used to pat him on the back as he was coming from the dressing room as if to say go get em'. I am a 50 year old man now, but I will never forget the memories of seeing the crusher. He will be greatly missed, but not forgotten- there was only ONE crusher!

Jeff Langenfeld

April 16, 2006

I remember many years ago when he came to my parent's house to pick up his dog with his wife's Pink Cadillac. I yelled for my Mom and ran as fast as I could because "Da Crusher" was at the door! That's when I got my autographed picture, which I will cherish forever.

Belated condolensces to the Lisowski Family on the loss of Reggie. I had the honor of meeting The Crusher on many occasions during my life as a youngster and young man. I was very pleased when Reggie took the time to pay his respects to my father Jack Wilson who was also a member of the wrestling fraternity and also wrestled for many many years as the Masked Marvel. Again my condolensces on your loss.

My belated condolences.... I just found out about this on the web.

The Crusher was far and away my favorite wrestler. When he made an appearance on All-Star Wrestling in was an event like no other.

I especially remember the interviews after he got done moidering dem bums. He'd be talking to WQAD-TV Moline's Jim King with the whole object to get Jim to laugh. The singing always worked.

How he was gonna jump over the fence at John O'Donnell Stadium (a baseball stadium in Davenport, IA... they used to wrestle outdoors in summer) with a keg of beer on each shoulder and wring his opponents turkeynecks and have a party.

And how he and Dick the Bruiser would hit each other because their opponents weren't tough enough for them.

What a guy.... do I miss the Crusher. I've got an old video of him, I think I'll go watch it.

I have fond memories growing up in Winnipeg in the 1960s watching the Crusher on All Star Wrestling out of Minneapolis. I remember going to the Winnipeg Auditorium and later the Arena to watch the Crusher battle Mad Dog Vachon and Butcher as well as his feuds with the Heenan Family and others. Thanks for the memories and may the Creator bless you and your family.

He was a pioneer in his field.Long before pro wrestling had huge tv contracts, selling out domed stadiums and its main eventers became movie/tv superstars, Lisowski, bobo brazil, the bruiser and others plied their craft in gynamisums, bingo halls, and small towns hidden away.

To the family of the Crusher.

My father use to know the Crusher. I remember hearing storys about those two growing up. Some of my best memories with my dad were watching the Crusher & the other great classic wrestlers. Knowing they are both in God's hands and joking around again make me smile. He will be greatly missed but always remembered.

My best friends Grandfather was the bell ringer at the Calhoun Beach Club. Those were the days of true wrestling with Vern and the boys. My all time favorite was the crusher, and my sympathy goes out to all who loved him. My favorite memory of the crusher was that crazy song he sang. " Do the turkey neck, do the turkey neck you dirty bum." remember that one?? Or how about the commercial he did for a rental center."Tired of your old TV......Then throw it away". As he then proceeded to toss the TV on the ground with a smash. I loved it.

To the Lisowski family:

I never knew the Reggie "The Crusher" personally. However, I know that the Crusher and other professional wrestlers filled our living room with laughter and "wrestling moves" as my brother and I watched wrestling every weekend on Channel 18. October 26, 2005

"DA CRUSHER" was my hero in the ring, as he was for many others. When you said "DA CRUSHER" you also said MILWAKEE! There is one big thing that set DA CRUSHER aoart from the other Pro Wrestlers. Reggie DA CRUSHER was a real honest to goodness Gentleman. I never knew Da Crusher on a personal level, but got to meet him on a number of occassions (mostly at autograph sessions) but deep inside, under the rough exterior, Reggie was a real gentleman. He was genuine. Most pro wrestlers can't drop their "schtick" for a few moments to be nice to people, but Da Crusher, out of the ring, was a sweet people loving gentleman. He will be dearly missed.

"ROOOAAAAAARRRRRRRRRR"..."Do da hammerlock"....."You Turkey Neck".

Milwaukee, Beer, Women, Polkas, Dat's what Da Crusher liked. And his family. Goodbye to a dear man.

Amy and Doug Deak

October 26, 2005

Crusher was much admired here in Pittsburgh because of his blue-collar attitude. He appeared frequently on our local Studio Wrestling show throughout the 60's. One of our favorite Crusher memories was when he would growl that "the women in Pittsburgh have the best legs in the country from walking up and down all the hills around here." God bless you, Crusher -- you were one of a kind! Our thoughts and prayers are with your family...

I was deeply saddened to here the passing of my 'Hero' while I was growing up. Everyone who watched the AWA loved the Crusher. His no-nonsense approach to the Badguys will be in my mind forever. I was even more enlightened on the article of him watching his grandson on the mat during his high school years. I guess the Wrestling blood lives on. My own son is Jake's age and was approximately the same weight. I only wished they had wrestled at a tournament somewhere together, I could have met my 'Hero', but it never happened. Well like they say memories 'Live Forever', I can say I will truely miss him. Rest in Peace. Team up with with Bruiser, and watch out for the Badguys!

My heart is very heavy today as I write this. I feel a great loss in the wrestling fraternity. Reggie and I were friends from the middle sixties when I first met him. I have always had the deepest of respect for him and will until the day I can no longer be here. To the Lisowski Family I send my sympathy and prayers that they may cope with this loss. May the memories of his big smile and firm handshake linger in all that knew this superman that made Milwaukee famous by his actions in the ring. Rest in peace my friend and when it's my time open those ropes for me and tag me into Heaven with you.

My grandfather got me watching AWA wrestling late Sat nights on WLUK up here in Green Bay when I was five. I used to run and hide when I heard his voice. I grew up loving Da Crusher. When you heard Crusher talk about those bums, you knew the Crusher was going to take care of some business. Thank-you Crusher, for starting me off being a fan and now 30 years later, a worker. God's going to have one hell of a main eventer now.

I only met Reggie once at his home, but because he was a fellow wrestler and such a wonderful friend to my husband Jack Wilson, I will always remember that meeting. The loss is so hard to endure, but may GOD give you comfort and the love and admiration from all his friends and fans make you smile with the memories they re-kindle.

GOD bless you all.

My deepest and sincerest sympathies to the whole Lisowski family. My heart and prayers go out to you. Reggie was a great man and a true friend to my Grandfather, Jack Wilson. I was very honored to have Reggie attend services when my Grandfather passed on in 2001.

We sadly learned of the passing of Reggie Lisowski via the www.jsonline.com - Milwaukee Journal / Sentinel web page. It was truly sad that we lost a great pro wrestler and a person who helped to make Milwaukee famous. Our sincere condolences to the Lisowski family.

My father Jack Wilson is mentioned in the article and passed in 2001. My dad and Reggie were very good friends for many decades and had great admiration for each other. Reggie attended my fathers funeral in Milwaukee and still looked like he could carry his famous "beer keg" on his shoulder all day long. He had many kind words for my father which were greatly appreciated by Jeanne my step mom, my brother and three sisters. All of us loved "da crusher." As a child my brother Michael and myself attended many of my dads matches in Milwaukee. At one of these matches I went to the back steps of the auditorium to go up to the wrestlers dressing room. I was about ten or so. As I got to the top of the steps and started walking to the main dressing room some one yelled out very loudly "Hey kid where are you going." I froze in my steps. As da crusher was approaching me my father yelled to him Reggie that is my son John. Da Crusher then gripped my hand and said hey kid how ya doing. Ofcouse I said fine. Needless to say I was taken aback when he yelled at me and was very scared. All the wrestlers in the room got a big laugh out of what happened.

I can remember many matches at the South Side Armory, Arena and Auditorium in Milwaukee where my father and da crusher wrestled. These were the days before the high flyers of today. You actually saw a 30 or 60 minute match with arm and head locks, step over toe holds, the Gagne sleeper hold, and other moves that aren't used to much today.

The excellent article in the Journal / Sentinel and redone on their web page is a true testament to a great person and outstanding professional wrestler. Both Reggie and my father are now together in heaven reminiscing of their many great times down here with their familes and on the wrestling beat. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to express my feelings about a truly great American - Reggie "Da Crusher"Lisowski. Rest in Peace Reggie, as your memory will be with us forever. John (and my wife Nancy) Wilson, Ocala, FL
